Jayco 222sl tongue weight?

I just bought a 2018 Jayco octane 222sl I want to know if anyone pulls one of these fully loaded with a half ton? I have a 21 Ford F-150 super crew with the 2.7, a weigh safe WDH, electric trailer brake control, and air bags for the back. I pick up the toy hauler this week, but if I have 2 full size Harley’s and my gear in this I am going to be close to the 8000 max. Has anyone tow d one of these like this? Do I need a bigger truck to pull cross country? Or will the f150 be okay?

I pull my sl222 with a 2018 f150 supercrew with the 5.0 V8. I’m only hauling a Triumph Bonneville with a sidecar. I do have the 3.7 rear end. I have no problem with this setup. Not sure of the pulling power of the 2.7. I have heard the 3.5 ecoboost has a lot of punch. Good luck!

Thank you. I appreciate the help. The 2.7 is 325 HP and 400 lbs torque, it’s definitely less than the 3.5, but I’m hoping it will do alright. I have the 3.55 gears in the rear end.

2021 silverado custom 5.3 v8. 222 but no toy in it. Took it to Wells ny ( sacandaga state park) hardly noticed I had a trailer. Except gas , 16 18 might normally, 9mpg towing

An answer without knowing the trailer weights and the TV's capabilities is a guess. There are many threads on this forum addressing those issues. Try the "Search" feature and it will provide you with information you need to operate a safe tow.

Since you mentioned you will be loaded close to the 222SL GVWR of 8,000lbs, an ideal loaded tongue would be 1,040lb to 1,200lb range (13% to 15% of the gross loaded weight). At 7,500lb gross = 975lb to 1,125lb range.

I would take your F-150 under loaded conditions (passengers, full fuel, etc.) to a CAT scale and weight, subtract the CAT weight from your F-150's GVWR..., the delta will be your actual remaining "available" cargo capacity for your TH's loaded tongue weight and WDH weight. Don't forget to account for any truck-box cargo weight not in account at the CAT.

OR.......

Take your TV/TH under "fully loaded" conditions to a CAT Scale and perform a 3-pass weigh-in. The CAT information will confirm WDH rating/adjustment, tongue weight, axle weights, etc..

If your maxing out your F-150 (GVWR and/or Rear GAWR, etc.) then you may not like it's performance/handling towing your loaded TH cross country through the mountains..., especially in less than ideal towing conditions.
