Jayco A/C ducting

Here's what I was talking about.

Wow, thanks a million for the link. After I watched the video I went out to my trailer, dropped the inside AC cover and discovered my divider was worse than the one in the video! I also discovered the AC hold down bolts that hold the AC to the roof were also loose. There were also gaps between the framing and the ducts, so cold air was blowing into the roof area instead of going into the ducts. Not what I expected in a new trailer just 2 years old.

It took me about 45 minutes to correct all of the discrepancies and button it back up. When I turned on the fan I could not believe the difference!

Last week we were camping in 100 degree temps and I was a little disappointed in the AC cooling. My unit is a 15k and my trailer is only 29 foot, so I had expected better results. Today the temps are in the 60's so I can't give it a good test, but from the amount of increased air flow I know it's got to be an improvement.

That video should be a Sticky and kept available for future use. If you have never looked at your AC unit, watch the video and go out and look at your AC. I have a feeling you may be surprised at what you find......

Great video, thanks for posting Brooksb …… checking mine this weekend.

In honor of this guys great video, maybe we should petition Merriam-Webster to add "Roof Shinglely" as a new word next year :D

Well.... I'm gonna have to watch this video and do it. Just the first few comments saying its helped a lot. Must be worth looking at.

Now that you've seen how bad your A/C is, look at the other side,.... your furnace heat. I did quite a bit of repair and re route on those ducts to get more heat to the rear bunk of my trailer. Much better now.

I had to do this repair on my 2015 Greyhawk. My separator was off causing my unit to short cycle due to the air getting mixed up.

I checked mine yesterday and the ducts are neat as they can be. I couldn't find anything to repair.

All the vents on one side of my 29MV didn't work. Because of a video like this I checked and found they did not even cut out the foam to the ducting. Did the same as others here and fixed all leaks with foil tape. Much better flow but also much quieter!

I wonder how you check this with a whisper quiet system? No big square cover plate to use for access.

When talking to my neighbor I mentioned this topic and he asked me if I could check his AC on his new Coachman travel trailer. It's a Dometic and looks a little different than my Coleman. I removed the cover and only found one small area that needed to be taped up. His ducts looked good, but his mounting bolts were very loose. One was very easy to turn by hand and the other 3 were just barely finger tight. Got those snugged up and put the cover back on. Seems like loose mounting bolts are a very common problem with RV AC's.

Snug is the key word w/ those bolts. Too tight and you crimp the gasket and it leaks. Too loose and the gasket doesn't seal right and it leaks.

There are 4 tabs, one in each corner of the AC unit. The instructions say to tighten the bolts until the tabs touch the roof. That's what I did and the bolts are snug, but not tight. One of mine was backed out almost 1/4 inch, and the other three were just finger tight.
