Jayco & Full Timers

If you full time in your new Jayco, is the warranty any good at all? I read where the warranty is no good if you Full time!:scratchhead:
May need to find something with a warranty that would cover Full Timing! Reading about lots of problems here.

The reason I ask is we are full timing in a 2003 Designer 31RLS, Thinking about a new Pinnacle!
Not sure yet though havent seen one yet. But our Designer has been pretty "Bullet Proof" for over 1300 nights so far. time mostlly spent at seasonal sites at various places. Technically full timiing since Aug 2012.

Welcome! I believe they are covered for full time use from what others have posted, but an email to Jayco will confirm to be sure.
 
I have an Eagle lite and in the owners manual it says not intended for full time use... That said I had no troubles with Jayco fixing what needed fixing on the RV.. I am in my RV 9 months of the year. Oct 15-April 1. then on and off all summer...
 
We fulltime on our Pinnacle and have never been questioned by Jayco on any warranty work.

Jayco like many other manufacturers excludes fulltiming in their warranty paper work but I have never heard of a warranty claim being denied for resonable Fulltime usage.

In most cases it is Don't Ask, Don't Tell. If they do not ask, why would you tell the dealer or the manufacturer you are fulltiming?

I think one reason for the exclusion is if the RV has excessive wear and tear during the warranty period due to fulltime use, they have an out.

One manufacturer recently changed their warranty to "Fulltimers Warranty" but they did not change the product, just the warranty.
 
Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if there was a major problem with the Frame, Fiberglass, etc. something major and very expensive to fix, would they cover it. As for don't ask don't tell, if it was a major repair they coulod find out in many ways if you were full timing. In my case, we have a P.O. box for mail. But you must have a physical address for packages, UPS or Fedex. That is a Camp Ground, so it would be a give away!

Rob. Have you had anything other than "Minor pronlems with your Pinnacle??
 
I think the only thing they might squawk on is if you wore out your carpet... anything else would probably be no questions asked warranty

We only have a P.O. Box too and use our Daughters address for packages or when we need a street address.

Our Pinnacle's registration with Jayco is actually registered to our P.O. Box as a mailing address.


In our first year of ownership and approx 8000 miles of towing, the few what I consider minor problems we have had are;

1. During PDI the Air Mattress had a hole in it, Jayco shipped a new one to us.

2. Water Heater Thermostat for the Electric Operation failed in the first few weeks of ownership, dealer replaced.

3. Door Side Slide with sofa was dragging at the top. dealer adjsuted slide.

4. Entertainment Center Slide not working correctly, dealer found loose wire at slide controller.

5. Aluminum Wheel cracked, (may have been caused by me, not sure) replacement ordered by dealer.

6. Waste Valve for Kitchen would not close all the way, dealer replaced.


Overall we are very happy with the performance of our Pinnacle and the Dealer / Jayco support.


We have done a number of mod's, not because things did not work we just wanted to make them better.

1. We replaced all the Halogen Puck lights with LED's

2. Installed an Electric Fireplace (Did not come with one)

3. Added a Sub-Woofer to the sound system for better sound,

4. Upgraded the trailer tires from "E" Rated to "G" Rated
 
That doesn't sound to bad. As for using one of our kids addresses for packages, at present the closest one to us is about a thousand miles away. Closest to our summer location is 200 miles away. So it would mean reshipping everything!
Likely will go with the Pinnacle when we trade. Not sure yet how soon, still pretty comfortable in our Designer. But a little more room would be nice. Problem is all the new camperss are so heavy!

Technically, you're right, Judgerr, but I think most dealers wouldn't question whether or not you're full timing if a valid warranty repair was needed. Refusing warranty work for simply using your trailer wouldn't help their repeat sales business very much.

I downloaded the owner manual for my TT at http://www.jayco.com/pages/products/owners-manual/ and read this in the warranty information section:

WHAT IS NOT COVERED
By way of example only, this limited warranty does not cover any of the following: defects in materials, components or
parts of the RV not attributable to Jayco; items that are added or changed after the RV leaves the possession of Jayco;
additional equipment or accessories installed at any dealership, or other place of business, or by any other party, other
than Jayco; any RV used for rental or other commercial purposes (Note: It shall be concluded that the RV has been used
for commercial and/or business purposes if the RV owner or user files a tax form claiming any business or commercial tax
benefit related to the RV, or if the RV is purchased in a business name); any RV sold outside the United States, U.S.
Territories or Canada; any RV not used solely for recreational travel and camping;...snip

The policy probably wouldn't hold up legally. What if you took a two year long (the full warranty period) recreational camping trip? Is that full timing, or using the RV as intended? :confused:

I've owned my 26BH for over two years now, towed it over 30K miles, and "camped" in it for probably 3/4 of the two years I've had it. All of the minor warranty repairs the trailer needed were done, no questions asked. And it's held up very well. I'm sure I'll get many more years of "camping" and "recreational use" out of it, too. :hihi:

Thanks Larry. I guess my wife would love the extra storage, but she has learned to get along with what we have now which isn't much. I am looking at the 31RLTS, have to keep the weight down as much as possible. My Truck is a Ford F-350 SRW with a V-10. It is a 2000 model but I only have 64,000 miles on it so I can't see getting a new Truck. All the new Campers seem to have Stone counters and Porcelin toilets. For all the extra weight they can add. My Plastic toilet in my designer just went bad a month ago and I put in another plastic one. Plastic is a lot lighter. Gross weight for my Designer is 13,000 lbs. New ones are all 14,000 to 15,000 or more. Have a guy at the camp ground where we are now in Texas with a 99 V-10 F250, he is towing a camper much heavier than mine. But I need to keep it close as I can to what I have now

Thanks for your reply Smokerbill! That is what I read before, I guess it would just be up to Jayco whether they would step up tp the plate or not! As for some ones reply about the carpet being worn, this camper is now 10 years old and we've spent a lot of time in it. Grand kids have spilled on it etc. and the carpet looks great yet. So I think that would not make a great difference. Just would depend on if they want a reason to deny coverage and save money!

I'm considering purchasing a motorhome and registering/titling it it under a LLC but will not be using it as a rental or a mobile office. According to the "What Is Not Covered" section of the Warranty, I would not be covered. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

Why would you want to do this?
 
Why not? There are many good reasons for this that I won't get into. Check with your CPA.

When I purchase a car or truck through an LLC, the warranty is not voided. If I buy a motorhome through an LLC and the usage is no more intensive than if I bought it and used it under my own name, what's the problem?
 
NEman: you brought the LLC into the discussion. Spend a moment and explain a few if the benefits to you with a vehicle or an RV.

I am a CPA, and can think of NO reason to put a PERSONAL RV asset into an LLC.

It can be used as a method of tax and fee avoidance, although some (possibly including the person's home state) might consider it a form of tax evasion. Not saying that that's NEeman's intention, nor saying that it's a good or bad idea. It's just something I read on the internet, so it must be true...

There are no liability issues that an LLC would save you from unless the asset is used in the pursuit of income (legitimately used in a business). A personal asset like an RV is insured to protect its owner from liability issues associated with its use.

As for the Montana LLC thing, sorry, but as a licensed CPA, I would not knowingly work with a client in one of these schemes. It is straight up tax evasion, no doubt, not to be confused with tax avoidance (the difference being that there is no other reason for this action than the evasion of a legal tax). I worked WAY too hard for my license to risk it and my good name on something like this.
 
Montana LLC's for RV's are coming under increased scrutiny in many states. I understand that if you are pulled over in California with a Ca drivers lic and a Montana registered RV it gets impounded till the taxes are paid on it.
NOW as far as warranty.. an RV registered to an LLC would be used as a rental and that voids the warranty..
