Jayco seats falling apart!

So we have a 2016 Alante 26AY, and last year I noticed the driver seat headrest starting to peel the vinyl off of the backing. Contacted Jayco, and not to my surprise they just basically said 'not our problem'. My extended warranty also said the same, they don't cover furniture. To recover with good marine grade vinyl will be about $1200, to replace both seats $2100.
The problem is I like the seats, made by Mastercraft, and very comfortable for driving or sitting in, so I will recover I think. It is to bad that Jayco decided to cover the well made seat frames with such inferior material. There is no way 30K over 5 years should basically destroy the seat coverings.

The faux leather problem has plagued many manufacturers, even FLEXSTEEL. Contact MASTERCRAFT since they have been bragging about their quality in a recent RV Business post.

Oh, believe me, I spend 45 minutes on the phone with them, spoke with a supervisor, he looked up the contract with Jayco and read me the part where Jayco dictated what material to use, Mastercraft would warranty the SEAT frame but said they used the material Jayco told them to, so it was not covered and to call Jayco. You see how that is going right?

I’m baaack…

Hi JesseS - I’ve been off the forum for quite awhile! You’ll never guess this but my seats are peeling like mad too. I contacted Mastercraft three times - I just wanted to buy new fitted upholstery for the seats. Each time the guy said he’ll get me a price. I didn’t even care about the color being a perfect match. Three times he never got back to me. The upholstery shops around here are so busy they didn’t want to look at them for months. Used seats looked too worn, then looked for new seats, I found RecPro had one pair in stock. They arrive tomorrow.

My wife has retired from performing on the road so now instead of spending 30 weekends on the road a year, the RV sits around unused. We only use the Alante to travel to our bungalow in Florida and back. So we’re going to sell it and get a Class B.

My BIL and SIL just bought my in-laws 2015 Discovery MH with only 10K miles.
The seats were intact when he and his wife picked it up in Texas.
On the way back to CA. 3 weeks ago the seats started to flake just like the picture!

Very thin cheap covering.

I looked into new seats at RecPro, and also at shop4seats.com, about $1800 for a set. Took them to FineLine Trim, a local high rated upholstery shop to get them recovered with Marine Grade Vinyl from SunBrella, they do boats, custom cars and other custom work, best in the area and fully guaranteed for 10 years. Cost is $1300 for both, ready in 2 weeks. This guy is busy! shop was full of custom cars and boats. I will never deal with Jayco again, they basically told me to pound sand.

New seats are in!

BTW, they fit fine. No need to drill extra holes or change anything, the existing pedestals have lots of holes to mount things on. The underside of the new seats looked exactly like the seats I took out. These did have double the springs that the Mastercraft seats had.

Nice! how much did those run you? Lots of people said there was a long waiting time for new seats @ RecPro. mine will be back next week, good thing as we have a trip up the coast on the 12th.

They cost $2075 delivered. I ordered mine on the Aug 23. They were delivered Aug 30 just after noontime. There might be a wait now - I think this was the last set they had in stock.

We want to put the Alante up for sale mid-October so I couldn’t wait months for re-upholstery.

Now I have two seats to get rid of…

Jayco Lifetime Customer???

4 to 5 years with 30,000 miles and the entire upholstered interior falling apart including the cab seats, couch, and dinette cushions. They had best make good or this could turn into their most viral national advertisement!

The "Pleather Problem" has been reported across multiple brands of RV. Even Flexsteel had problems and they have since gotten out of the RV furniture business. You are not alone..

I spoke with Flexsteel around the time they left the RV furniture business. They told me that they only built furniture based on the customers (Jayco along with others RV manufactures) specifications and that the customers chose the lower cost material, not them.

In any case, I had them build me a nice comfortable set of Captain's chairs and covered in UltraLeather. They are very comfortable for sure. I did have to go through a retailer though as they did not sell anything retail (or at least not the captain chairs).

Point being, Jayco has known about these issues since even before mine was built and regardless of who makes the furniture, Jayco specifies the material to be used, not the other way around. I think Jayco should have an option for upgraded materials, such as UltraLeather vs non-durable Pleather. ~CA

We live McKinney and have a Alante 26 x. Drivers seat is splitting and I’m interest to hear exactly where you had your seats repaired/ reupholstered. Thanks

Jayco refused to acknowledge or assist

Our 2018 Alante started to show peeling 20 months after delivery. At 24 months I reported to the dealer (RVOne Tampa) via email and voicemail, but was ignored. After a couple of months, I contacted jaycomotorizedsupport and they said they might help if I show them the thread of discussion with the dealer. I immediately sent that to Jayco - and again was ignored. When I followed up again a few months later, they claimed to have not received the email trail, so I resent it - forwarded in to include the time stamps of everything.

In spite of all of that, they have refused any support, even after I asked for the issue to be escalated. They pretended to not have been advised, and any proof that I had was invalid. Nonetheless, I provided timestamped photographs, emails with time stamps, and full details.

Status remains: Jayco is refusing to honor their warranty.

Update: I have already budgeted to upgrade the RV in 2024, and based on the lack of commitment, I will exclude Jayco, Precent, Embark, and Entegra brands.

Now, do I pay to fix, or take the $2000+ hit on resale or trade?

Does anyone have any suggestions for legal recourse?

Dispute resolution service

Thank you for sharing the information on the dispute resolution service. This is good to know for my next new (not Jayco) purchase.

Reading the rules of engagement, I needed to make a claim in the days immediately after the warranty expired. (Had I known that then, I could have - instead I was still waiting for the dealer to reply to my requests.)

If your dealer is not responding that will be an issue no matter what the brand.
