Lift system help

Hello,

New member in need of help. I have a 2005 Jayco Select 12HW with a slide out. The other day I went to open it up to get ready for an upcoming trip. I walked around the unit and unbuckled all of the buckles that hold the top closed. I then went around back and started cranking it up. The roof started to raise and then all of a sudden I got resistance as I was cranking. I thought maybe something just rusted due to recent rains we had and tried to power through it. Then all of a sudden I heard a snap and the roof in one corner (front left) fell. Apparently, the buckle on that corner was never fully unbuckled and the resistance I felt was from that buckle. I'm not sure if I broke a cable or spring or what. The problem is I can't for the life of me figure out how to access the pulley system. There is nothing under the trailer that I can see and nothing I can see from inside behind and cabinets. I've called about 6 rv repair shops and no one will service these things. Everything I've read on how to approach repairs starts with you having to raise the roof. I can't seem to do this. Like I said, three of the four legs go up no problem but that one corner has no lift at all and the roof is too heavy to lift manually. Any idea where to start? Any help is much appreciated.

You may have pulled the pulley loose from the floor. Contact pop-up-parts and they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Get a friend or two and lift that corner while someone is cranking and then support it with a 2x4.

The systems are fairly simple so the good news is once we figure out what you have, the fix is usually within the talents of most family handy persons.

You mentioned not seeing anytime underneath? Is it a sealed underbelly?

While searching keep in mind there are three popular systems, Jayco, Goshen, and Coleman. They each do things a little different than the other. Make certain the information you are looking at matches your pup or else it will drive you crazy.

Thanks. I wouldn't say it's a sealed underbelly, but it just looks like a flat piece of black plywood. there are no exposed tracks or channels of any kind. Just gas line and water line. And as for lifting the corner and supporting with a 2x4 as Grumpy suggested, I have a good amount of rot in the roof on the corners and I am afraid I could cause more damage. Maybe I can make some sort of support brace to spread the weight out so it it not concentrated on one spot?

So we're looking at a major rebuild project. This will be fun. How is the canvas? You'll find two companies do about 99% of the work. Bear Creek and Canvas Replacement. I used Bear Creek and was very happy.

Canvas is in pretty good shape overall. One small tear that I can repair. The windows, screens and zippers are all perfect.

The lift system puts all the weight on the corners.

I have only worked on Goshen lift campers and your Jayco very likely does not use that brand lift system. You should find the beginnings of your lift system just inside where your lift crank is located. Is your lift crank coming out of the body of the camper?

Is your crank on the front, passenger side?

Its on the passenger side rear

With the crank on the back, i’m not familiar with that. The two jayco’s i’ve had has had the crank on the front. Jayco uses the L&W lift system in the trailers I’ve had. All the cables for this system are on the inside. You have to remove cabinets to access the cables and the winch. With this system, there is a main cable with a square plate that the four cables that lift the roof attach to with eye bolts. If you’re lucky all that happened was an eyebolt opened up. If not lucky you broke a cable or pull something up out of the corner. You’re going to have to remove cabinets to figure out what happened.

If your crank is rear curbside. This is where you're gonna have to start looking...

From there you're going to likely be able to figure out what part of your system snapped/broke.
