Low point drain leaking while pump is pressurized.

Hi Fellow Travelers

We have a Jayco Jayflight SLX 264BHW. I noticed the last time we had it out that the pump would kick on every few minutes or so, so I went around the trailer looking for leaks. I saw that water was dripping from the low point drain on the hot water line at the back of the trailer. After trying to pull and push the valve in a few times I got it to slow to a drip but couldn't get it to seal completely. I have read online that you can remove the retaining clip on these valves and replace the o-rings. Has anyone done this and know the size o-rings needed. I won't have time to take it apart and go get them so I was hoping to have the o-rings in hand the next time I take it out and fix it then.

Dunno the sizes but i pulled out mine a while back for the same reason. Pull out the retaining clip and then pull the whole stem out. There are 2 o-rings on it. Check for debris on the rings or in the valve that could be causing the leak. My O-rings looked ok and were still flexible. I am thinking of putting silicone plumbers grease on the rings to help out.

I used a dab of Vaseline on mine. Shouldn't have used that on the rubber o-rings, but that's all I had at the time, and it worked. Eventually I'll have to replace the o-rings, but perhaps by then, I'll just put 1/4 turn ball valves in there instead.

I would use the aforementioned plumber's grease or keg lube on those o-rings. That should get you fixed right up.

As mentioned, if you go the greasing route, use a non petroleum based grease or your O-rings will be destroyed. It may be a small piece of debris stuck in valve seat. Good luck

I spent the $8 and replaced with quarter turn brass valve from Lowes. The drain tubes were a little short anyway and would drain into the lower siding track, so crimped on the valves with longer tubes that are just below side of rv. Gotta love pex.

I had the same issue this year and then found out that when the valve closes it makes a "pop". Try pushing down harder. When mine clicked the leak stopped.

Try a little of this before you spend to $$$. It will usually fix valves and faucet leaks. Lowes has it in the plumbing section for just a few bucks.

When mine have leaked a few times in the past, I just rotated the "T" handle a few times while it's fully seated and it usually stops. I pulled mine and lubed them with vaseline about 3 years ago and haven't had a problem since. I took one of the o-rings to the hardware store to match it up and bought 4 replacements for about 75 cents just to have on hand. A failed o-ring could ruin a trip.

I have this same problem and sinply can't locate the valves of the low point drain. Unit 264BHW. Can you tell me where are they located?

I don't have your unit so I don't know. The low point drains are identified on the outside of the trailer. Find the sticker and then go inside at that point. It may be behind a removable panel where the bypass valves are located. If all else fails, try the owners manual.
