Mattress HELP!!!

I have a 2008 Jayco Jayflight 29fbs.
The master has the RV Queen short (60 x 74).
We have 4” foam plus an eggcrate mattress on top of the stock mattress.
It doesn’t matter what we do, we can not sleep comfortably; ESPECIALLY when we are staying multiple nights.
We are camping during spring break and I know we will be fighting that bed all 5 nights.
I am NOT looking forward to it.
We camp approximately 4-5 times a year.
Not enough to spend $700-$800 but enough to say ‘You know what?- i slept alot better last night; Im glad we got that.’
With that said, what are some inexpensive but GOOD mattresses out there OR ways to make things better?
Id like to stay as close to $200 as possible.

Check out IKEA. We bought a foam mattress for the kid, and it is super comfortable. I dont recall what we spent, but I know we did not want to spend much. You can cut foam easily with a serated knife.

If I didn't look to see who posted this thread, I might have thought it was me. I was in your same situation last season.

I too didn't want to break the bank and buy a true residential, but I knew I needed good support. Knowing what I know about mattresses, I knew I needed a hybrid, because springs in a mattress are the best support, if you're over 160lb. The hybrid part is the addition of the memory foam.

I also have a short queen and didn't require a size up. I am 5.5, so a short queen is fine for me and anyone else that's going to be sleeping on the mattress.

You're not gonna get anything comfortable for $200. Save your $ and eventually pay more and get a Hybrid mattress, from RVMattress.com. I bought the Dreamfoam Hybrid model. It has SAVED me. I also love camping but DREADED the idea of 7 nights on my 'layered up' mess of a bed and the pain it caused. I sleep on a hybrid at home. I am over 200 lb, so most memory foam options aren't good for me, as heavier people tend to bottom out in them. Unless, you get a thicker all-foam (Temper-type) but they are $$$ and sometimes sleep 'hot.' RVMattress.com is having a very good sale right now. The Dreamfoam Hybrid is at its best price; $559. You will not be disappointed. I don't bottom out and can finally sleep in comfort when camping. They have a lower tier/price option, but it's essentially an all foam mattress, which I do not consider acceptable.

Another option, depending on where you live, you may be able to find a $2,000 mattress for $300-$400, but there's no RV queen size, so you'll have to be able to fit a true queen. If you want to know that option, let me know and I will tell you.

I second the Hybird style mattress. Ours cost just under 500$, but was well worth it. It is a short queen. I am 6' and over 200lbs. and it works well for me. The mattress that came with the RV was pure junk. I also so find mattress that are completely foam to be uncomfortable. Having a good mattress makes camping just that much better.

I hear ya, but there is no way I can swing that much for a camper that we only occasionally use. There has to be another alternative.

I would look at something like this, I'm just not a fan of the full foam mattress.

Not possible to answer your question without knowing what your sleep habits are and/or what type of mattress you and yours prefer (firm-plush). You can buy one of the mattresses others like but if they don’t like the same type of mattress that you and yours do that’ll be money wasted. I’ve been down this road.

I’ve had some decent results with a temper pedic mattress topper. Problem is if your mattress is bad little or nothing you add on top will get you where you’re comfortable.

If you go to a mattress store even to get an idea of what firmness level you need keep in mind most of those mattresses are well broken in and will often be softer than the same mattress brand new.

Firm mattresses are generally cheaper than plush mattresses. I have searched mattresses for many months and never seen a truly plush mattress for even 500 much less 200. For that price range you’re mostly looking at foam mattresses which I don’t recommend for RV’s unless humidity is not an issue where you are and travel to. I wouldn’t recommend a spring mattress for that price. I might be wrong but I think you would be back to square one.

If you’re in a bind and need a short term solution you can always buy a quality air mattress and put your egg crate on top of that to get you by until you are able to get what you and yours really need. Of course as long as it will fit. The extra length may not work for your rig.

It might seem kind of weird but check out Facebook marketplace. I just went and picked up a rv king mattress that was listed for free. It had only been used Less than one month and was like new. The owner thought it was too firm due to some back surgeries. She said she tried to sell it but there were no takers so she listed it for free to get it gone as she already replaced it. There were tons on there for pretty cheap some even new.

We live in Canada and purchased a Douglas mattress in a box and have been very happy with it.

I bought a Zinus memory foam 10 inch short queen 5 years ago and still loving it. And we got the 12 inch king for home and a 10 inch twin for occasional family visits!.
