Me and the boy have some time coming up mid-April. We've talked about a quick run down to Meteor Crater, AZ.

Are there campgrounds in that area than anyone can recommend?
Thank you!

About an hour up I-40 from the “ Meteor Crater” is The town of Holbrook. We have stayed at “ OK Rv park”. 3 different times. Nice people run it, Fair price, quiet, level gravel all pull thru sites. Easy in and out gas station just as you leave on the right. Great Mexican restaurant across the street and you’re only about a half an hour from the” Petrified Forest national Park “. If you have never been to the Petrified Forest I think it’s well worth the time to see it.

When the new owners took it over they removed all cable TV outlets and degraded their WiFi. Big disappointment the last time we were there...2023.

We recently stayed at the KOA in Holbrook and it was a major improvement. We highly recommend staying there.

If you plan on visiting the Petrified Forest Nat'l Park I recommend entering from the South entrance off of Hwy 180. It's closer to many of the scenic view locations.

Just be aware that the wind does blow on the plateau during the spring months. There are some great sites to visit in that area but Canyon de Chelly (Canyon de Shay for you gringos) is worth the visit. You will need to arrange a Navajo guide for the visit and that can be done at the visitor center.

Holbrook KOA was where we stayed whn we visited the Petrified Forest. We had been to the crater before so we didn't vist it.

It's your typical KOA crowded and busy, but things were clean and orderly. I would suggest getting a reservation if you are planning on staying there.

According to "Wind Alert" right now winds are out of the south at 20MPH LOL and that is a light day.

Thank you all for the information. I won't have a toad, so our Class C (32') will have to be our daily driver too. Are there any places in the Petrified Forest that would be hard on driving our motorhome into?

I would say no. We saw many Class C’s when we were there. Use Google Earth to view the roads. All are paved with big parking lots. As I said before the South entrance is a lot closer to many popular viewing areas.

We stayed at the park right there off the 40. For the last 4 yrs at least once a yr. The sites are big easy in and out everything worked. Other then it’s in the middle of nowhere and they are proud of their fuel prices (location) and the wind it’s a good stop for a day or two. The creator is cool enjoy it

Meteor Crater area

Did that area a few years ago and did not have issues finding a place. Painted Desert is opposite Petrified Forest. Outside Winslow is a State Park, Homasaso or something like that. Very good, beautiful sunsets. Also south of Winslow is a Town park on the river. Grandkids loved rock jumping into the water in a desert! And of course you get to stand on a corner in Winslow Ariz.

Homolova state park

We stayed there twice. From there, went to meteor crater, sedona, petrified forest and a couple other places. Bath house needs work but clean park and nice folks. Spaces were good and they have petroglyph at the park. Close to winslow also.

Our Greyhawk Prestige 30xp is the same length, and we disconnected from our spot at the Holbrook KOA, told the office we that we were only gone for the day, and toured the Petrified Forest from north to south, returning via the highways. Not too bad for this park. Easy to find parking at most of the large lots. Better chances during the week and off peak season.

Homolovi State Park.

Thanks all. The plan to leave last week didn't work out. We're still hoping to get there within a few weeks. I appreciate all of the input!

Just a note of thanks for the recommendations. We spent first night at the Sky City casino RV lot. Nice. Cheap. Recommended. Made it to the Meteor Crater RV park the next night and stayed for two. Clean. Nice, well taken care of. Dusty as all heck, but that comes with the SW territory.

The crater is cool. I'm a nerd, so I enjoyed it. But even for this nerd, 30-60 minutes was enough for me. :)

We hit Sedona and then Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff. I liked both of those places.

Again - thank you all for the suggestions and recommendations.
