MIL for DEF

This will be my second, first one replaced at 17,620 miles in 7/2020. Not to worried about it as I carry a simulator.

Can anyone show me any photos of how and where to install the DEF simulator. I just bought one from Jeff Whitney , it has not arrived yet, But I need to learn where and what it takes to install it. Thanks if you can help

I don’t have a very good pic, but if you open the drivers cab door, at the bottom of the cab you will see a panel being held on with 3 Torx screws. Remove the screws and work the panel out and on the right side you will see the def tank. On top you should see a yellow plug, this is the connection you take apart and plug the simulator into. The plug can be tricky to get apart, use a small screwdriver and gently start lifting the yellow tab as you pull the plug apart. Here is a video that shows the plug assembly and how to mate and unmate the plug.

Brian, I can not thank you enough for that information I really appreciate it and the time you took to dig that information up for me. I will feel much better knowing how to do this as we move forward .

I have a 2017 37 TS. I took off the little cover by the steps but couldn't see the connector. Does anyone know if its in a different location in the 2017'S?

I have never opened up an M2, only an S2 but look around the are of the top of the def tank itself.

Ok so I crawled underneath the DEF tank and this is the connection I saw.
1. Is this the right connector?
2. What is it called? 3. is there a diagram for hooking it up to simulator?

Do you by chance know the name of the connector so I can find one?

Here is the information on the plug needed for the DEF Simulator along with Part numbers for the plug and pins. I ordered some not long ago from Digikey Electronics and they had them in stock.

This link is to the latest DEF Simulator build with step by step instructions, takes about 15 minutes to build one. For about $30-$40

Brian, did your second one fail yet? July 2020 was five years ago.
Not yet, it’s still showing on the Bluefire on startup on a 45 degree day that the DEF is 93 degrees and the concentration is 28%. I pulled a sample out of the tank and checked it with a Refractometer and it’s right at 32.5%, so it’s pretty obvious those two sensors on the header are not reading correct. It is not showing any codes on the dash or on Bluefire and Freightliner won’t do a thing until there are codes……it’s just a wait and see:rolleyes: I have read before that new DEF Headers do need to be calibrated with the Insight software when installed so maybe mine has just gotten out of calibration but you would think with the concentration showing that low might trigger a code but don’t know at what point it is bad enough to trigger something. We will be taking off for the Rally in April so we’ll see what happens on that trip, at least I have the security of having the DEF simulator. I plan on discussing this with FCCC at the rally and talk with Bobby at Camp Freightliner.

Good luck with it. We leave in April for AK for the summer. I hope our new one holds. Like you said, I never go anywhere without the DSS.
