Mouse Hole "AKA" Power Cord

Hey guys,
Question for the team,
I’m picking up my new 2018 28BHS Jay flight next week. I have always been big in to adding Mods to my stuff but I need some advice. I "REALLY" dislike the power cord and mouse hole set up. My last RV had the newer style that just locks on with no holes open to the RV. I thought that’s what all the newer RV’s had gone to but was surprised to find out different.

So my question is I want to add the Furrion 30 Amp Detachable RV Conversion Kit and get rid of the mouse hole. But doing this will void my 2 warranty and anything electrical I’m sure I will have a hard time getting covered.
What would you guys do wait the 2 years then change it or make the Mod and hope for the best?

I read that a lot of people installed Hardwired Surge Guard 30 Amp protector, I would think doing this would have the same repercussions when it comes to warranty work.

If I do wait the 2 years does anyone have any good ideas to plug up the mouse hole when in use to keep out bugs, Ants, Mice, Ext?

If you're concerned about voiding the warranty for anything electrical, you could either have it done by the dealer or checked by the dealer (or any certified rv tech) if you do it yourself.

As far as pests, I've seen several different types of shields that slip over the power cord. Personally, I keep my cord slick with a silicone lube. It also helps pushing the cord back in. Plus I stuff the entry recess with Glad dryer sheets to repel bugs.

Thanks for the ideas sounds like a good start, I did check with the dealer and Jayco about having it done "Professional" it would not make a difference but I thought the same thing.

I use a metal kitchen scrubby by 3M, I don't recall the name. I cut a slit, to the center of it. And place it around the cord, behind the cover, when deployed. And it is in front of the plug, when the cord is full shoved in.

At some CGs, I have seen lots of bugs trapped in it.

Edit: found it; 3M Scotch-Brite

Hi Zug,

This doesn't answer your question, but as an alternative to the Furrion there's the SmartPlug B30ASSYPW 30 Amp Connector And Inlet Combo Kit.
It's similar to the Furrion, just easier to attach & lock since it doesn't have the twist ring.

Thought I would mention it for what it's worth.
Good luck.

If your concerned about mouse holes . Take a look in the cabinets. They must only have 6" hole saws at the factory. The floor penetrations are huge !

Presumably I screwed up then. Bought my 23RB new in June last year. I've already replaced the "mouse hole" with a Marinco conversion. And I guess I have doubly screwed up by replacing the WFCO converter with a Progressive Dynamics PD4655L converter.

I replaced my cord with the Furrion conversion kit and it is still under warranty. The only way it will void any part of the warranty is if the conversion causes an issue. If you wire it correctly (Black is hot, White is neutral and Green is ground) you will never have an issue. I also installed my Progressive hard wired EMS! Your dealer is not one I would ever go back to. Too quick to place blame on something or someone else!

:facepalm::facepalm::

I'm was more worried about the cord because it can make a great path for mice to walk up an in, a few years back during hunting season we had mice get in to one of the campers via the "Mouse hole" I just don't like the idea. And if I can change things and not worries about the warranty that would be great.

Thanks everyone for your input, I would really like to get this changed out ASAP, here is what the Jayco Rep sent me when I asked about it, I'm sure this is a generic response for any mod question.
If I could speak lawyer I would probably have a better idea what he was saying and known to read between the lines :)

Well...I assume the same applies as new car warranties that I am VERY familiar with, and if push came to shove, they would in fact be required by law to prove your mod caused the exact failure that you want warranted. Now...this can be a battle, but its true. The Magnuson Moss act is the law the governs this.

For those who are using steel wool, do you have a rust issue from the steel wool? Staining?

I still use my pull out 30A Cord all the time. Never had any problem with mice getting into the trailer through it...

When I pull it out I has some foam that I place around the cord where it comes out from the slide down cover like shown on ZUGs report. When the hose is all pushed in the slide down cover completely seals off the hole... I know foam is not going to stop a mouse but this is only there when setup at the camp site. They may run up the cord and when they find it blocked off they will turn around and go look for things somewhere else....

At one point I was thinking about changing this over to the power connector type so I could use a short 120VAc cable adapter to plug into my 1500WATT Power Inverter outside receptacle (Poor man's Contactor Switch-Over hehe) but never have done it yet...

I have gone over my whole trailer underneath and pluged many mice and critter holes... Lots of cables come through the floor of the trailer and usually are not sealed very good.
