Just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself....

I'm from Hillsborough, NJ. We upgraded last summer from a popup to a Swift SLX 184BH. I'm towing the toy with a 2003 Toyota Tundra V6 (5 Speed). We gave the trailer a great maiden voyage driving from NJ, camping in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee (3500+ miles). We are really loving the new TT and looking forward to learning new tips & tricks from the forum.
 
The trips being planned for this year..

Spring Trips:
-Outer Banks (Frisco Woods Campground) - Use credited nights from when we got evacuated for Hurricane Earl
-Finger Lakes, NY (Watkins Glen KOA)

Summer Trip:
Great Lakes Tour - Michigan & Wisconsin...possibly Minnesota & Iowa

We are trying to bring our 3 kids to see the 48 lower states while they are still living home. They've got 25 so far and are all under 11.
 
Welcome to the forums ! Also bought a Swift Slx 184bh. Will be picking it up on march 31st.

How to you like the trailer up to now? Any tips?
 
iLLBRED, I'm sure that you are going to love your Swift SLX. I was in heaven on our long trip last summer with it after doing several long hauls with our previous Popup. It was sooo easy to setup and breakdown. The ability to leave our stuff in the trailer was so much easier than living out of the back of my pickup like with did with the popup.

We sleep 5 in it very comfortably. Last summer's trip involved a lot of moving as we only spent more than 1 night at 2 locations. I'm looking forward to our spring trip to the OBX when we will drive and setup camp in one place for the whole trip. We will definitely get to feel more at home with the trailer then.

I was amazed at how easy it was to winterize the trailer as it came with the freshwater by-pass kit. I had the whole thing done in less than 20 minutes!!!

I was able to get used to towing it rather easily after pulling the popup. It was a piece of cake to put into sites.

I really don't see us needing to upgrade from this trailer. It has everything that we want and meets our needs perfectly.

Some questions about SLX 184BH

Congrats on your trailer ! We are strongly considering this model (as well as the 15BH one) and I would like to ask for some feedback.

1. How do you find the wall mounted AC ? The bunk beds are on the same side of the trailer but separated by the kitchen galley so is the AC strong enough to push some cold air to both bunks ?

2. What is the exact width of the bunks ?

3. Can't find anywhere, or maybe I am not looking hard enough, if the SLX series have electrical brakes ?

We got the 184BH because we needed a unit that would sleep 5 comfortably.

1) The wall mounted AC unit worked very well. We had some high 90 degree days during out trip through the Mid-West. One of the nights, my son sleeping on the top bunk said it was a little hot up there, so we just put a small fan that we had on the counter by the stove and pointed it up toward the top bunk. He said that he was getting plenty of cool air from the AC then. My son on the bottom bunk found it very comfortable even without the fan.

2) I am not at home right now, so I will have to measure the width of the beds and get back to you. I was able to lay on them comfortably and I am not small.

3) Yes, the SLX series does have electric brakes. It comes with a emergency breakaway switch for the hitch. I found it a lot nicer having the brakes on the Swift SLX over my popup that had no brakes. You don't even notice the trailer back there when stopping.

Don't worry about the width of the bunks; if you can fit comfortably than that's good enough for me.

Great to hear about the electric brakes, I was under the impression that certain Jayco models come with surge brakes so just wanted to be absolutely sure.
 
Decision - 184BH

We spent all morning at the dealer yesterday, basically going back and forth from the 184bh to the 154bh model. I didnt' expect the smaller one to be actually that spacious but regardless, we came to the conclusion that the addional sofa, 14" tires, larger fresh water tank, wider awning that all come with the 184bh model were the deciding factors. Would like to have a small window on the kitchen side, though.
So I will be calling the dealer tomorrow to start the paper work on new trailer; will still need to include some pricing negotiation :)
We really like the way Jayco designed this SLX series - great floorplans, nice decor at appealing price point.

Welcome to the JOF Doublee7! You have the same travels desires as my family did in the 90's. My kids got to see the lower 48 camping over three summers in their middle school yeas (one in a tent, and the last two in a tent trailer). Well actually they got to tent camp in AK too. We saw and 'did' over those three summers as most kids only get to read in books! Congrats on you and your family :)

Great choice ! I'm picking up my 2012 184bh at the end of march and anxious to get it ! I'm pretty sure the 2012 has 13 inch tires. Am I wrong? Will have to get and have a look.
