Well, the DW and O have finally decided to take the plunge and crawl out of our family tent - straight into a brand new 2012 Jay Series 1208.
We were limited by the TV (recently bought a 2011 Grand Caravan Crew with Tow Package), and a secondary dedicated TV is just not in the cards. After hitting a lot of RV dealerships/shows/etc, we decided Jayco was the brand for us, and DW and I both really liked layout of 1208.
Grew up camping in a PUP, so definitely not new to me.
I'll be running as close to max GCWR as I'd like, but I'm not overly concerned (fact that it has electric brakes helps).
Being up in Ontario, gonna be a while 'till snow clears, so dealer is storing for another month or so for me, but I'm already planning the first few simple mods I wanna get done before our first planned outing!

Anyway, glad to join the community, and I'm sure we'll chat soon.

Welcome to the forum Matty and congrat on crawling out of your family tent and getting the 2012 Jay Series 1208.

Congratulations Matty! Our first Jayco was a 1996 1406KB, loaded with many options (AC, Bike Rake and more).. Had some great times when the kids were little. Enjoy as we're sure you will!!!

Hi Matty
I am curious about something.. Can you tell me how the trailer goes up and down.. Is it still a handle crank or have they switched to something else...?

Wow! Never tout I'd get such a warm and rapid welcome! Thanks all!
Getting the break controller installed this Weds and should be taking delivery in the next few weeks (store keeping in storage for me as I muck out garage). DW and I are going crazy having to wait though.
@Ladywendolyn - now standard on 2012 (and apparently an option on 2011), the Jayco Jay Series (and Select) come with a power lifter (operated by a key fob) but can still be done via hand crank.

Done the crank before, but looking forward to convenience of power up/down (gonna make tear-down MUCH easier/faster.

Congrats on your new pup...here is an item to get if you don't have hot water already....Coleman Hot Water on Demand. I bought one for my pup and now I have joined the dark side. I will still use it even though I have a hot water heater on board. I would also make yourself up a small tool kit with some spare light bulbs

Have fun with your new PUP....we are still itching to get our maiden voyage in...lol

So....

You've had the 1208 for over a year now, and your second season is upon you. What mods, if any have you made, where have you been with it, etc...

We custom ordered a 1208 in 2011. Had every option available added to it. We love it. I have not found many other 1208 owners though. It's nice to see another one.

How has the Grand Caravan (?) done as the tow vehicle? I tow with an F150, but my wife would prefer to use her caravan. We are thinking about getting her a new 2014 Grand Caravan with the factory tow package to replace her current 2005 model. I like my truck, but have to admit that her van is much more comfortable.

Happy camping,

Steve
