I have an 5ver SOB on order. I have never had a 5ver, i know nothing about hitch options.

Prefer a light weight hitch option. I use my truck as a truck and do not want to lift a heavy 5th wheel hitch in amd out of the truck between trips.

The new 5ver (see signature) has a 10k lbs GVWR, so I would estimate a pin weight of 2500 lbs, in a few years.

Truck is a long box (see signature)

I'm leaning towards an Anderson Ultimate Gen 3 or a Gen-Y.

What are your thoughts? Again I'm not interested in a traditional 5th wheel setup unless there is a very good reason not to go with the above options.

I use a Reese Goosebox, love it. Towed our last 5th wheel using a B&W Companion hitch, it did it's job but when I needed the bed of my truck it was a PITA to get out. When we got our new camper last year I went with the goosebox and so far it was a great decision.

Times two.

I have the Gen Y Executive (2nd Gen), love the ride and the bed space it frees up. All you need is a Gooseneck Ball and safety chain couplers.

The 3rd gen of this King Pin is awesome - the latch now stays open with a pull of the cable in order to un hook.

I am like you and have used the ultimate hitch from day one. So far very pleased with it and how it tows. It takes 5 minutes to put on/remove and I have my bed back when not towing.

X 3. Like the Reese but there are some quirks to it that I would have designed differently. I was going to use the Gen Y but Jayco or Lipperr would not except for warranty issues.

Jagiven, I hope you enjoy your new fifth-wheel. (I still miss hybrids, but that's another thread.) Anyway, you asked for options, here's one:

Love the hybrid! Decoupling the bed would make life easy! Just drop and go!

Wish you were closer. I have a complete Anderson fifth wheel hitch that I need to sell. I am asking $500. which is half priced. It was used to move our trailer from Caldwell Idaho, where we bought, it to here in Washington State.

I bought and installed the Anderson Ultimate and used it for 3 years. We loved the ease of removal and the light weight. I sold it used for $450 a couple years back.

My only complaint was having to raise and lower the rig to clear the hitch pin. The B&W Companion make hooking and unhooking quicker and less wear on the front stabilizers.

Reese Boose box. Those Gen Y hitches are very good but they are NOT adjustable like the Reese Goosebox.

Reese Goose Box!! I have it on my 27.5 RLTS and love it. It leaves the bed open when I need it. The only drawback is that I need to jump in and out of the bed to hook up the safety chains.

I spoke with Alliance and they said Gen-y is approved by them and Lippert. Spoke with Lipert this past week and they said only the Reese goosebox is approved.

I don’t own a 5th wheel but if I did it would have either a Reese Goosebox or (preferably) a Gen Y hitch on it. Which ever one the manufacturer recommends or approves. No way I could deal with a traditional 5th wheel hitch. In fact in the past it’s the reason I have never looked at them. I use my truck bed too much.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see signatures unless I’m using a laptop or desktop computer? I’m currently using my iPhone but typed in the web address in my Google browser.
