Newbie needs fridge info

How do I set my fridge to get and stay cool while driving down the road. Should I set it to the auto mode and let the battery run it, turn on the gas and let the gas cool it? I want to have it cold by the time I get to my destination.

My personal preference would be for you to turn on the frig a day before starting out and then put it on gas while driving. You could then turn it off when fueling up. We have done that for many years and have always been happy with the result when we have gotten to the campground. Does you trailer have a three-way frig, gas/ac/dc or only two way gas/dc?

Most full size RV refrigerators are not 3 way.

They are 110 shore power or propane. The propane feature requires 12V to operate.

i asked the dealer this question when we did our walkthru. he said for insurance reasons he couldnt tell us to set the fridge 0n propane while driving, but said everyone he knew does it. of the people i have asked since i would say about 80 % do. after some thought, i cool mine down at home on propane, and travel with it in battery mode. like dirty harry said, do you feel lucky?

Perhaps I am the only one but I pre-cool my fridge for 24 hrs before leaving, load it with cold and frozen food, and shut it off. For a couple/few hours, I've noticed it stays plenty cool if the doors remain closed. When I get to where I am going, I turn it on.

If it is on auto mode and it is a 2 way, it will automatically cut over to propane anyway. I have never owned a 3 way, but I would not run on 12 volt unless I just had to. Way too much power drain when it uses a few cents on propane and cools much better.

I just leave mine in auto all the time.

We never pull into a gas station. On auto all the time.

It was made to be used, if someone chooses not to that is their prerogative.

hubjay8-- I always run mine for 2-3 days on 120v at home while packing & then on gas while traveling. Just to be sure it's on gas I don't set on auto, DON'T WANT WARM BEER WHEN WE GET TO THE CG. Larry

Propane here - and no stress at gas stations. My TV starter is way closer to the pump - and makes a **** of a spark (as they all do) when it starts the vehicle. I don't think a small flame on the trailer has ANY chance of starting a fire at a gas station. Some call me crazy
