Newbie question about fridge

How does the fridge work while traveling down the road? Is it on propane?

Harmopa, just make sure the propane tank is turned on and the refrigerator is set on auto and it will run on propane. When you plug it into shore power it will switch to electric. It is OK to let it run while traveling, just remember to shut it off when at the gas station. You don't want the frige to light up if there are gas fumes around.

Unless you have a 3-way fridge - which is found on many smaller TT and Pop-ups. 3-ways run on propane, 12VDC, or 110VAC.

Running off 12VDC, a 3-way the fridge will automatically draw from your converter supplied voltage (when hooked to shore power), Travel Vehicle (while connected for towing) or TT battery (no external connections). For long trips, 12VDC will save on propane, but keep in mind it will continue to draw power from both the TT and TV batteries when the TV engine is shut off.....

Some people don't like to run the propane when they're driving, or will turn the refrigerator off when they go to a gas station.

A refrigerator running on propane will have a flame, as does a water heater running on propane. A live flame in the vicinity of gasoline vapor is a potential problem.

I tend to turn off my water heater when we break camp, but leave the refrigerator on, even when fueling. Haven't blown up yet.

Be careful where you get your advice.

Many people will tell you they run their propane appliances while traveling. Keep in mind this is illegal in many states at gas stations, tunnels, some bridges, and a few other locations. Fire codes exist for a reason, and while many folks have gotten by without incident, fires and explosions do and will happen. Is a cold beer worth a human life (lives)?
