Northeast Campgrounds For Seniors?

My parents currently have a hybrid and we are trying to get them to purchase a larger camper, possibly a class c. They only bought their first rv last fall so I think everyone is still new to the game.

They are both about mid 60's and retired. They use the current camper a lot to go to two local cg's, both of which are right on the beach. Both are great but it never really feels like you get away since they're so close to home.

We are trying to get them to go to places off on Long Island because the local cg's have very little to offer. They are happy though because like I said, they camp on the beach.

So I'm looking for some help. What are some campgrounds in the northeast that might be good for seniors? They like casinos, leaves changing color, shopping, reading books and other things. I'm kind of looking for cg's in rhode island, southern Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware. Something along those lines with a max distance of about 3 hours outside New York City.

I think thy are scared because they don't really know what's out there at all. Plus, they like going to the two local spots but I'm sure it will get boring. The local Cg's and surrounding areas pretty much have nothing to do except go to the beach. The beach is great but can get boring. I'd really love for them to experience other places. I'd also say that a sewer and electric site are must haves.

Please help me help them see the light. What are some good places for them?

I live (and grew up) not far from the Turning Stone Casino in Verona NY. That's maybe 4 hours from NYC (3-1/2 if my husband's driving,ha!). They have an RV park down the road which I hear is quite nice. There is a shuttle back & forth to the casino, which boasts your typical several restaurants as well as a couple of venues for live music.

Once in this area, they would also be quite close to the lower foothills of the Adirondaks (Old Forge is lovely and under an hour's drive). There is fantastic camping all over the place up there. They could make a nice loop if they wanted to.

The Mystic Seaport area sounds like a good fit or even some of the Campgrounds on/near Cape Cod. There are KOAs, State Parks/Reservations, etc. They might even like to get away from the beach and into the trees... good for the soul.

I highly reccommend Lake George RV Park. We go every year and it's one of our favorite trips. Kids to seniors enjoy and the sites accomodate almost any size unit with minimal efforts. Being in a class C you can take the trolley's all around the park for free and then into town or outlets for shopping for a whopping $1.50 each trip if no car.

One thing that you will find is that once you start going to private CG's the rates go up considerably, but so do the ameninitites.

Another one I am looking to do this upcomming season is Normandy Farms as I have heard good things about that too but have not stayed.
