We(DW and I) just puchased a brand new 2011 Jayfeather Select 29L. We up sized from a 13' fiberglass egg(still have it) mainly due to new baby.Wow wee ones sure have alot of gear! We pick it up this Saturday and head out on our 30 day tour to Ontario to play show 'n' tell with the baby.
After looking at many TTs we decided this was the one for us. TV is a '09 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 extended cab long box with HD tow package, dealer refered to it as a farmer special lol. I've towed a loaded car trailer (7500++ lbs) with out WD no problem and will be using a WD with this new TT might I need sway controller of some kind?

Welcome from your southern neighbour (Alberta that is). Can't help you with the sway bar question but enjoy your trip. I noticed that fuel prices came down yesterday but with the price of oil on the world stage they could come down quite a bit more. Are you going down the Cdn route or are you going to swing down to the US and take the northern route. I have done both in the past but many years ago and the US was much better especially if you have any problems like a breakdown etc. I can speak from experience.

Welcome to the forum Andygee. Most folks with Travel trailers do have some sort of sway control. I would recommend getting it.

That's what I figured. Dealer is supplying WD hitch so I'll probably have to toss in a few$ more and have the sway control. I like the idea of the dual cam type set up over the friction.

A co-worker has a 37' tow behind that has built in sway control on the suspension kinda like a sway bar on a sporty car. are these available after market? This would reduce sway at the source.

Welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum Andy! We have a 29' and had sway problems with the single sway bar the dealer put on our Huskey WDH (and that was just one bar). Dealer finally got in the Equalizer WDH/sway system he was supposed to install in the first place. According to Huskey, something like over 4500lbs (can't remember exact weight) should have two sway bars (rather than just the one). Enjoy your "new" tt!

Thanks for the tip healthi. The 29L is aprox. 5800lbs dry. I'm thinkin Reese Dual cam as the WD is a Reese. I'm figuring about 6800lbs loaded with our gear, we're packin' light. Yes 1000lbs sounds like alot but the little stuff adds up quick.

Congrats on your new TT and welcome to the site. Sounds like your thinking straight, the best advice I could give to ya, do not skemp on the hitch. For that size trailer a friction bar is not the way to go in my opinion. The dual cam setup will be alot more stable and will make for alot better towing experience which can make or break a vacation.
