Oxidation on Cap 2016 Eagle Fifth Wheel

Since Jayco has sold off to Thor it appears quality went out the window. We still have our 2005 Designer and even at 15 years old it has been very trouble free and still looks good. I do maintain it well (lots of work). I have looked to a new paint job entire rig $20,000 and that includes painted on striping not decals. the sides are good shape just end caps need repainted.
I maintain my 2010 Designer and I am looking into refinishing the exterior, sides and caps. Is an automotive body shop the place to go? The exterior is light cream color. Is clear coat enough to restore some of luster and maintain the existing decals? should it really cost $20Gs!

As a FYI for anyone following this thread. I have 3000 miles on my auto clear spray can job on the top half of the cap. I have cleaned bugs off a few times and its still looks great and shinny. So if you get the auto clear on before its gets worn down to the gel coat you will be in good shape.

I'm having the same problem on my 2018

I'm having the same problem on my 2018 317 RLOK. It showed up within a couple of months after purchase. I'm really disappointed with many poor quality issues on my unit.

Oxidation issue update

After removing Oxidation and waxing I had a graphics shop add to the top 18 inches of the cap a vinyl called Diamond Chip. 10 year warranty on the Diamond Chip and five years on labor. Hoping this works. We will see. Heading to Florida next week for six months. Sorry for the lateness of this update.

I bet in time you will be fine with the covered area. But I bet below the diamond plate will be your first sign when that goes. The problem is the clear coat is so crappy and thin it wears away very quickly. Then all thats left is the paint before you get into the gel coat which is what starts to look chalky.

So what part of FL you going to? I am in Leesburg.

Just thought I'd would update on the Oxidation issue I was having last summer with my 2016 Jayco Eagle 27.5RLTD. After adding the Diamond Shield (clear vinyl used on race cars) to the top 18 inches of the nose cap then spending the winter in Florida with the rig / nose cap facing south so lots of sun. The Nose Cap looks great. I am glad I didn't get repainted. You just need to keep wax on the nose cap. Wax on wax off. I will post photos in a few days.

Is that like a clear bra? Pics would be great!

I just used some light compound with a buffer a week ago, then coated it with a ceramic wax. Looks a lot better than it did. Will see how long it lasts, but I'm guessing not long.

Photos of the nose cap with the vinyl Diamond Shield just above the Jayco logo or 18 inches down from the seam. The Diamond Shield cost me about $350 and it has a ten year warranty. All I do now is wax with McGuire's cleaning wax and McGuire's high polish wax. Once or twice a year. I happy with the outcome. 20200630_054049.jpg20200630_054309.jpg20200630_054124.jpg

Looking good, I will have to try it on our 293rkds. I wonder if it could also work on the driver side of the rv, the top 24 inches is also fading (it looks like that is the portion exposed to the sun while in storage). I wax twice a year and keep it clean.

MarMic it won't hurt it. Do a Google search for a vinyl graphics installer near you. Send them photos of your issue and request a quote for the Diamond Shield vinyl. Worked for me. Good luck.
