Wondering if anyone has had a shelf collapse?

We have had ours for one year and one of the long shelves in the pantry collapsed. Trying to figure out how to brace it. Or if we should just remove it and just have larger shelf.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ours did the same thing early on. The pantry shelves are held with flimsy staples from the outside and a few canned goods and a couple of bumpy roads and…crash. I braced the inside with 1x1” rails and cross pieces stained to match the cabinets. Screwed them from the outside too and found brown touch-up paint to cover the heads. In our 212QBW, there were other shelves held by staples that I reinforced, like over the bed and over the dinette. I did those too.

You’re welcome! There are a lot of spots that can use a little extra reinforcement. Another is the bottoms of the wardrobes on either side of the bed, if you have that set-up. Better to be proactive.

I am a fan of using Sch80 PVC pipe. Cut it to size and have found it to work well especially if you are on the road and need a quick fix.

Not sure I understand how you use pvc pipe to reinforce the shelf. Do you have a photo ?

Sorry no photo, but I placed them in the corners of cabinet to bottom of shelf. It is definitely not as nice as other idea mentioned. But, I was traveling and needed a quick fix.

One of the first mods I did was to support the front of flimsy shelves. I removed the plastic front caps and replaced them with aluminum brackets I had. The sides and back had supports.

The PVC is placed vertical between shelves. Floor flanges can be used to really hold them together.

When ours collapsed I bought some frame mount drawer slides and built a couple drawers. Much more usable space for us.

If you look carefully, and yours are similar to ours, a couple shelves are stapled in and a couple were more solid. Carefully loading the heavy stuff will help the longevity of the "looks good in the showroom" construction.

Crappy shelve design

Strange that we experienced pantry shelve failure and today I read this post. Wife opened the door and a jar of dill pickles hit the floor and shattered. For the cost of the Pinnacle I would expect the shelve construction to be better. Who would build the shelves and leave 1 corner left floating in mid-air? JAYCO PINNACLE that's who. Just arrived at Elm Hill in Nashville and gave the wife heart failurewhen the pickles fell out. I guess I'll find a lumber store and get some 1x2 to build braces with.
Monday the crown molding on the bedroom slide fell off while traveling up I65 in Alabama. The staples are totally worthless and the glue was not applied correctly. Learning they don't use proper construction techniques on these.

Thanks Kurt - we hope to fix them this weekend when we are out. We were thinking of getting 1x3 to fix and we are going to do all of our shelves in the pantry.

If I had that size pantry I would expect to have support floor to ceiling on the corners. Staples are quick and easy but shouldn't be used for shelves since these units get bounced and jarred on the highway. Since we are on the road I will do a temp support repair.Having access to a cabinet shop and finding out how cheap these are constructed, I'll probably rebuild with quality materials and glue and screw the joints.

For a quick fix while camping, I picked up some corner braces at Lowes. The wood strips stapled to the side panels is just stupid and pointless for bearing any weight as you expect to need in a pantry.

I added 1x2s cut to fit floor to bottom shelf and then between each shelf. I'll rebuild these before the next adventure. Quick easy and holds the weight. I did the front corners and will add some in-between support as needed.
