Partial cover for the winter?

I don't have a cover for my 19h, but I'm thinking of a way to use some tarps just to cover the bunk ends to cover the seals so it's harder for any water to come in. I'm thinking of a way to go from the roof down to the ground on the front and back ends.

Anyone ever do this? Any reason not to do this? Thanks.

Yeah I know where you are coming from. We purchased a used 2007 19H feather. We found a soft spot in the floor so we are planning to do a blue plastic tarps cover. I did not even think about the "bunk ends". Sounds like a good idea. Thanks

If you have to use tarps, get something that will go about to the tops of the wheel wells on both sides of the trailer. Why do I say this? Read this thread as what you are considering is about the same as the useless cover in the thread:

Once you have the tarp to the tops of the wheel wells, put a piece of rope at a few of the tarp grommets and tie it to something under the trailer to keep it snug. Same at the corners, keep it wrapped tight!

I covered mine with a tarp ( silver/black), summer would be silver. Even with a good tarp you’ll really get just 2years out of it. I put 4 tennis balls over the corner gutters to protect the tarp. I have towels taped (painters tape) to the trailers corners between the trailer & the tarp. The 2x4s are held in place by the jacks as you can see and this keeps the lower sides dry. By doing this it keeps the tarp from flapping against the trailer. Been doing this from 2013 to today as you can see and I have no rub spots. My trailer is 21’ and I have a 30’ long tarp, forget the width thou but it could be 20’,
Sorry for the sideways

I use poly tarps to cover the trailer for our sailboat and frankly it’s a PITA. Trying to wrap them to cover what needs to be covered and get ropes or bungees in the right place is difficult — a lot harder that throwing on a full cover with custom fit. Tarps don’t last long and get ripped with the wind. Yeah, they are cheaper, but replacing them several times a year (and going through the recovering process again) I’m not sure it’s worth it. I’ve been very happy with the Elements cover for my trailer. It’s worth the cost. Just MHO.

It’s just $40:00 a year and not that difficult to do and if it prevents the water from getting in I’m good.

Same here....poly tarps are ok for covering firewood, not trailers. Have an Elements also....going on 5 years. No trailer damage, no tarp damage. I spend 4 hours start to finish with the entire winterizing of the trailer and that includes the trailer cover. Just me.
