Pinnacle Brake Disconnect Warning

Have a 2017 Pinnacle. For at least three summers have been getting an intermittent heat brake disconnect warning when pulling the trailer. Have had it in for service at least three times, with no success. They can’t find the problem because the warning is pretty sporadic. Have checked the truck’s brakes thoroughly, and am sure the problem is in the trailer. Does anybody have any experience with this issue, or any advice? Love the trailer, but am considering selling because we’d like to take some trips involving mountains, and want to have brakes that work 100% of the time!

Common problem with numerous tow vehicles and the 7 pin connection and new electronic controllers. Had it with our 2015 SILVERADO until I added the 7 pin into the bed. When using the bumper connection it moved enough to cause the message.

Realize a lot of things have changed with the newer vehicles. We had the same issue but it was the trailer - the brake wire was wrapped around the spindle. We called CoachNet who sent out a mobile guy - he tested the plug from the trailer and said it was the truck (and that was all he did!). We took our F450 to a Ford dealership where they had a machine that tested the truck - found nothing wrong with the truck. We stopped at a trailer place on the way home and they checked our 7-point connection and found nothing wrong. We scheduled an appointment with the dealer & I was looking over the tech's shoulder & saw the wire, questioning him.

My GM truck is very sensitive, it doesn't take much to make it display a fault. I get the warning occasionally, along with turn signals inop doing the trailer light test, but they still work.

Are your brakes REALLY disconnected when the warning displays? Have you manually applied the brakes with the controller to check operation when the disconnect warning displays?

Make sure your 7 way plug connectors on the truck and trailer are super shiny clean, also check trailer ground.
