Hey guys....We sold our 28BHS last year and picked up a 2017 X23F. I am planning this years camping and right now we have 29 nights with two or three more trips to figure out....I have 4 girls 8 years - 4 months. I cant wait for the season to start!! This years trips are to St. George Ut, Mesa Verde CO, Boulder Mountains, Manti Le Sal's, Millsite St Park, and Yellowstone National Park. No questions form me tonight I'm just excited.

Being fairly new to this whole having a TT camping - I've had it a while but had to do a lot of work on it - do most of the people here plan out their season like this? We've always just decided 'Hey let's go camping next weekend, if we can find a spot."

Mix of both here.

For our longest camp (usually 2 weeks) or long holiday weekends, we plan in advance so that we can be where we want to be, and can reserve one of the best sites.

But we still decide a few days in advance, "hey, let's go camping this weekend" and book a site. The quality of those last minute sites isn't always the best, but you are still out in nature.

Have our first weekend book (Canada Victoria Day). It's about 4 more weeks until our August dates open at the local provincial parks.

We do both. Those are the planned trips and then we will mix in 3 or 4 weekends. We boondock 98% of the time so this summer will be a bit different for us.

We just switched from a TT to a hybrid for the same reasons.

Yup, all the comforts of home, but still sleeping under "canvas". Best of both worlds!!

What did you like or dislike about your 2007 19H? I just purchased a 2008 from Camping World - AS IS. I have since discovered nothing bit major water damage issues on floor and walls, which will have to be replaced.

My wife is big on planning. She's a CPA, and everything needs to be just so.

Not me... my plan consists of packing the trailer and going South. Or East.

After a few short trips, and now a longer one of 29 days in, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, she has embraced my lack of a plan. For her, that's amazing. It's just the two of us, and two cats, so that probably adds to our flexibility. Walmart, a good set of batteries, and a small generator also contribute to our flexibility.

I think another thing that adds to our ability to just hit the road, is the internet and GPS. No matter where you are, you can easily find the nearest museum, zoo, propane supply, campground, county park, Walmart, etc..

Not knocking planning though. I've been ADD since before anyone knew what it was, so planning, for me, is beyond tedious.

Anyway....enough about me!....Hope you enjoy your camping adventures with your girls. When my sisters and I outgrew wanting to go trailering or boating with the parents, we still looked back on our adventures as something very special.

We usually have a few destinations planned, but we always wing it when it comes to where we'll actually stay. For us, it seems too limiting to have reservations when we're on a long road trip. This way of thinking hasn't failed us yet, i.e. we always find a place to stay, no matter what part of the country we're in.

That certainly works during much of the year. But if your planning on visiting any of the "tourist" areas, from mid June to mid Aug you could find yourself out of luck. We have worked at campgrounds in those type of areas and I can tell you they are booked weeks ahead 100%. And the few campgrounds around us were also booked...so.. it can backfire in high traffic areas, especially out west.

Like others, we fall into the part plan, part wing it category.

Most of our camping is done at one of two lakes/state parks about an hour from the house. I normally make reservations for Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day six months in advance so we can get the sites we want. Same if we decide to take a vacation in the camper.

We also camp a lot of weekends and most of those are decided less than a week in advance, usually after we're satisfied the weather is going to cooperate.

Yes, we travel from March to the end of October in all types of areas, including heavy tourist. Never a problem. We don't usually camp in the national parks in July and August when they're extremely crowded. As a matter of fact, we try not to even visit them during that time.
