Propane Suburban stove not staying lit…

Hello. We have a ‘25 Jayco 170BH travel trailer. We took it out for the first time and noticed the stove would light okay but it would not stay lit. I have a tea kettle that, after lighting burner and turning heat to medium, I’d set the tea kettle on the burner and within a minute the flame goes out. This happened on both burners. I had to constantly keep lighting the burner. Not sure if it’s a safety feature when something gets set on the burner and sort of flattens the flame. The flame is the normal blue flame color. I probably went through 25 matches before I had boiling water. Some times the flame lasts 4 minutes before burning out. I tried low heat and high heat with same results. Also, tried a different pot with same results. Any ideas?

It may be a long shot but close the propane tank valves and bleed off the line pressure (safely). Wait a couple of minutes for the safety valve on the tank to reset, then turn the tanks back on slowly. Opening them too fast will trigger the safety valves to shut down like you have a ruptured line.

Might lift the lid up and check the propane connection in the stove. There might be a shutoff valve there that isn’t turned on all the way. Is the problem the same with all burners?

Does your furnace and water heater work ok on propane?

The water heater is on demand and the couple times we used it we noticed it would go from hot to cold back to hot. The furnace was okay. But assuming we are getting hot to cold water and flame to no flame on stove, is that probably air in the line?

If you're getting air in the line to the tankless heater, you should be seeing error codes (E1 maybe) on the temp controller. Maybe bad regulator at the tank. Have you tried switching to tank 2 or replacing a propane tank?

It’s brand new. It was our first time ever camping in it. Brand new propane tank. We have a single propane tank and no regulator, just direct line. So I’m not sure if it’s still acclimating to being used. I did go in the RV today and burner 1 stayed lit for 5 minutes or so before I turned it off. Burner 2 stayed lit for a couple minutes before going out on its own with no pot/pan on it.

The regulator out by the tank is supposed to supply a steady pressure and flow. If it is not the safety shutdown or a pinched pipe than I would suggest you might have a bad regulator valve. Many posts of failures. Cost to replace is low and if that is still not a cure than you will have a spare. If you aren't confident on picking one I have used Etrailer.com and found them very helpful in finding the repair parts I have needed in the past.
