That is the saddest picture! Guess we should appreciate our weather…leaving for Quartzsite, AZ next week, and then Lake Havasu again just before Christmas for the last trip of 2023. Making plans for our first trip of 2024 in January to Sedona, AZ.

We Winterize by removing summer clothes and then replacing with warmer winter clothes.

So I hope "moth balled" was just an expression and not something you did unless you can stand that smell for months after you open it up. Not something I would use in any way shape or form. Just saying.

I still need to get a cover. Then, we’ll take a sad picture, too.

It’s sad, like when I cover the pool kind of sad.

But, I already have my mid May trip booked, so something to look forward to!

Nope, there is a strong smell of it in the spring, when I open it up. In a day or two, maybe three the smell is gone.

I have used a product by New Hampshire Oil Undercoating for the past 2 years called "Mouse Out". Its an undercoating type spray that does 2 things. First it inhibits rust and second it repels mice. My camper is parked on my property that is heavily wooded and before I found this product, I would always see evidence of mice each year. Last 2 years absolutely nothing. I buy it by the gallon and spray it with an undercoating gun but it comes in aerosol cans as well.

I put a hockey sized puck on top of each tire and throw the small ones on the ground under the RV. In 28 years of using this method I have never had a problem. Even when permanent parked for 20 years. What little smell there is is gone in a week in the spring when it is moved to driveway and windows opened weather permitting. But thanks for the tips. I will definitely look into these alternatives next Fall.

Mothballs are toxic! There are other options that are not dangerous to use when storing your camper.

My late mother (born '42) LOVED the smell of moth balls.

She's put the flakes in her vacuum cleaner and throw them on the floor of her closets.

I guess it was the 'best' smell back in the day when all these air fresheners, scented oils and candles weren't 'a thing.'

I discovered CabFresh when we first had our popup and have used it ever since.

We usually buy three boxes (of four pouches) per year. We put four new pouches when we put the trailer up for the winter, four pouches in the spring during our first trip and three pouches sometime during mid-summer. We store our trailer in barn next to a hayfield and have never found so much as a dead bug.

Just got home from 5 days in Quartzsite, AZ. Highs 70's daytime, mid 50's night time. Ran the AC during the day, furnace at night. Lots of shopping at the local vendors.

No winterizing for us, at least until January.

Cabfresh active ingredient is balsam fir oil. I buy a bottle of it and triple recharge the old the old bags. Cheaper and works great along with peppermint oil.
