Putting RV antifreeze in water lines

Set left hand (outer) valve to the 12 0clock postion and the other to the 9 oclock and try that. That is the winterize/sanitize setting

Thats a great idea! I just finished winterizing and it only took about 2 1/4 gallons to do the whole system even with filling the entire filter housing and dumping a cup of fluid down each P trap. So all in all not that expensive to do that. Thanks again to pconroy for his great tutorial!

Winterizing my RV

I have a 2017 Jayco Redhawks 29xt and I am trying to get the water pump to siphon the antifreeze and all the pump is doing is running...I bypassed the water heater and took out the water filter also turned those knobs to off ..should they be on?

Did u reverse the little filter inside the water inlet? Also elevate your antifreeze bottle above the water inlet to help get the pump primed easier. Also open the furtherst faucet

Hand Pump

I always found the pump struggles if the lines are not primed. The simplest solution I found was a hand pump to help prime the system. I attached a link below. A couple of quick pumps and then the system takes over. The other advantage to the hand pump is you don’t have to flip that stupid cone. I have been winterizing this way for 5 years now and it works like a charm every time.

Ill second that. Take the cone shaped screen out of the exterior water connector and flip it around, so it points inward. This will press on the check valve and allow the siphon to work.

Also make sure to set your water control levers to the correct setting (winterize/sanitize).

I put the AF jug on my rear bumper, and wrap a bungie cord around it so it doesn't fall. This helps keep the pump from working to hard pulling the AF.

I will agree, turn the screened hose filter so the cone faces in. Pump doesn't have enough power to open the anti-siphon. The cone of the screen pushes it open so pump can pull liquid in without restriction.

I assume your 31FS has a similar configuration as my 31SS. I have to set my valves to "winterize", that is positions 2 and 4. I also have to reverse the screen in the inlet connection so the screen points IN, and be sure my drain valves are closed and the water heater tank is drained and bypassed (if you have a tank type heater). When you turn on the pump and stick that short hose in a jug of antifreeze it should start flowing. In order to get a "prime" in the pump you might have to initially hold the bottle antifreeze above the inlet, although I haven't ever had to do that. Be sure to reverse the screen so where it again points OUT when you are finished.
