Queen Mattress Mod

The 23K has an odd sized bed - kinda like a short queen - I suspect that Jayco either made them or had them made specifically for the TT. If I was looking at getting a better mattress any idea's where I'd find one this size?

I just changed the mattress in mine, it too is a queen short. I went to walmart.com and bought the "bed in a box" for $210 with free shipping. It is an 8 inch thick foam mattress (5 inches regular foam and 3 inches of memory foam), it's a little firm but way better than the one that was in there. The cover is zippered so I can cut the foam to the right length. I left it long for now but it is a pain to squeeze around.

I got the foam and a costco memory foam on top.. just know that foam can be HOT... and when it freezes it takes a long time to thaw... dont ask me how I know that......

I can relate to the freezing. I was on my way to Yuma AZ last Jan. and my first overnight was at the KOA in Great Falls MT and after setting up I went to get a book from my dresser in the master bedroom and sat on the bed and thought I was sitting on concrete instead of memory foam. I had my furnace on plus I had a couple of heaters which I then set up and within a couple of hours all was soft and cuddly. My second night was in Pocatello Idaho and this time the mattress was stiff but not as hard, after that I hit warmer weather and all was fine.

When we bought the 31FKS we had them remove the recliner and the mattress.
The recliner was to heavy to move when the sofa/sleeper was deployed (nearly every weekend) and we didn't like the idea of keeping the mattress of an 8yr old RV.
We went with the memory foam which is 8" thick.
That's all we use. I did hear that it would freeze up in colder weather. It's very comfortable and has very little motion when getting up, so not to disturb any other sleeper(s). Highly recommended !

I may find out about the freezing this weekend, I'm heading to Glacier National Park for the long weekend. It's been chilly the last few days but it is supposed to warm up this weekend. So far the new mattress has been great.

The best purchase we made for our TT was a heated mattress pad, turn it on a few hours before bed and it's like heaven crawling into a nice warm bed. It really helps keep the cold from coming up through the mattress.

Hello everyone! Good to have a place to talk to fellow Jayco owners!

In regards to the replacement mattresses -- I have a 26BH with the built in "end tables" on each side of the bed.

Now the mattress that came with it is not that bad...but it is not that good either so I dont really want to spend a ton of money on it - but would like something a little more comfortable.

I thought about a topper, but was concerned it would raise it up to where I could not easily see my clock, etc on the end tables. For those of you that have done it, what has been your experience?

For those of you that have added the Wal-Mart mattress - was the 8" a good size to match up with your end table?

the mattress in ours was pretty uncomfortable too, we left the mattress and purchased a 4inch think queen size memory foam from walmart...it was a few inches too long but isn't too hard to cut, now it is very comfy!!

yes we do have the end tables...it does block some of the view to them, but hasn't been a big issue for us. I use the tables for eyeglasses, cellphones, maybe a book etc and can access all that stuff with no problems....no alarm clock though.

Paying attention to the thread... I'm waiting for the day we actually get to camp out in ours... I'm questioning the condition of the current mattress...

I have a 07 325BH Jayco and found that the mattress in my master was very comfortable but I did add the Costco memory foam for added comfort. I did add one extra memory foam to the lower double bed in the rear bunkhouse. Jayco really goes cheap in the bunkhouse.

Can you or anyone give me the exact dimensions of the "odd" sized queen? I've been wondering what will come with the Eagle 320. I'd really like to replace it with a king. Ours won't have the built in side tables, so I think it can be done. Posted a question whether anyone had gone king but got no response.

If you search online you will find it listed as a "short queen" or sometimes a "rv queen".

Most of them look like they are 60"x74"

We went with the queen bed in a box from camping world. It sure seems they are a lot cheaper in Wal Mart. I did not even realize they had them there. I do know one thing, I could not believe a mattress that big came in a box that small. However, when they cut the seal and let that sucker unfold on the bed, it made a believer out of me. It is very comfortable and one of the best upgrades I have made to the unit.

Ok guys--quick question. I got the itch after discussing all this and went out and looked at some mattresses and toppers, but found no where I could actually lie down.

What have you found better? Putting a topper on the existing mattress which is still in good shape, just not that comfortable - or getting the entire mattress? The first option saves a little bit of money, but I don't want to make a mistake on comfort.

Put on a topper. I think you will be happy.
