RedHawk vs. Greyhawk...

Well the DW and I just returned from a Boat & RV show in Louisville, Ky. yesterday. We currently own a Jayco X23B hybrid and are looking to upgrade to either a larger TT or a MH. While there we saw a dealer that had both Jayco Red Hawk as well as the Grey Hawk motorhomes. The Red Hawks seemed to be less in price. Other than the price what are the differences between the 2, are you sacrificing quality for price?

I don't think the quality on the RedHawks is any less. The Greyhawk has more features that you may want. A check on Jayco's website will let you compare the two. If you plan on keeping the MH for awhile, I would consider the Greyhawk unless you don't want to spend the extra money.
When I buy a car, I figure that I want to keep it for 10 years so I get a nice car with features I will enjoy such as sunroof and XM radio. Over the ten years the extra cost is not too bad and it may me help get more when I sell it. Even if I can't sell it for more, I have enjoyed the extras for the whole time I owned the car. I used similar logic when buying the new Greyhawk.

Its all about the nicey nice things between the two models, though the extra components in the Greyhawk JRide would give me enough reason to move up just for those. My Greyhawk drives like a dream compared to my spartan Winnebago Minnie Winnie (complete piece of junk that thing).

Between the JRide extras and the levelers, that's probably a good chunk of your price spread right there if you had to do it all aftermarket. All the rest is just gravey (and nicey nice).

Personal choice and needs

It's all about your budget, your needs, and what you want.

We chose the Redhawk over the Grayhawk for several reasons...

The Grayhawk didn't come in the length that we wanted.
The Redhawk was lighter, and MUCH less expensive.
The Grayhawk had a bunch of stuff that we didn't need or want...
* Tank-less Water Heater (doesn't use campground electric).
* Levelers
* One piece LED light fixtures (you can't replace just the bulbs).
* Built-in navigation system (we wanted to use the Garmin RV GPS system).
* Side view cameras (had them before and didn't like them).

Now, this is just us, and others like the extra stuff. Also, the dealer can make a big difference when you are serious about buying. In our case, he add the spare tire for free, and installed slide toppers and vent fans.

All in all, we are very pleased.

How do you like the 2-piece folding mattress in the Redhawk 26XD? Bad design, we think.

We love the mattress! It's very comfortable, and we can still nap in it when the bottom is folded up (it leans against the bathroom wall and there is still room to hop in on the left side).

It's easier to make because there is room to move around both sides. My wife loves that it doesn't have those annoying radius corners.

We got stuck in 30 degree weather, and there was room for two dogs to snuggle in with us, and keep us warm!
