Refrigerator Prep?

Hello Everyone,

As promised here is the first of many really really dumb questions…

I have a Jay Series 1007 pop up . I have read all the manuals and feel pretty comfortable about firing up all the different appliances (Water pump, stove, refrigerator, water heater, etc) . While reading the refrigerator manual is stated that the refrigerator ought to be turned on 8 hours prior to usage. This is to obtain the desired temperature prior to placing the food in for storage. I understand the gas/electric/ battery power set up and obviously for safety stake while in the garage I would prep using electricity (120), my question is way way more basic….Am I to run the refrigerator while the roof is down?

Yep, you can run the fridge with the roof down, just ensure the fridge is level.

It does not have to be absolutely level, but if it is in your garage, side to side should be good enough and front to back, just get it close.

I do not have any documents to prove this, but I have heard the frig needs to be within 5 deg of level to work properly. I know if my 2 way frig is off side to side it runs cold.

How level must the refrigerator be?

If you have a gas absorption refrigerator, normal leveling of the vehicle is sufficient. The refrigerator is made to operate within 3 degrees off level side-to-side and 6 degrees off level front-to-back (looking at the front of the refrigerator).

Note they state side-to-side as seen from the front of the refrigerator. That makes it front-to-back for the camper in most cases.

First and foremost thank you for all the guidance on the issue. As to the power inverter is that the tan(brown?) face plate by the rear seat?

There is no "power inverter" associated with the refrigerator. That is why I requested Runner explain what he was referring to.

Assuming he may be referring to the power converter this would have no bearing on your refrigerator running on 120V. The converter does not supply this power. It merely passes the 120V through to the refrigerator. The draw on the converters 12V system in this case is insignificant. Cooling of the converter will not be an issue.

Sorry it's a converter. If you plug your camper into shore power the converter will be running charging the battery. This will produce heat.
