We have some water damage on a bunk end and are trying to repair it ourselves to cut costs. Does anyone have any experience removing the bunk end from a 2014 Jay Feather Ultra Lite? Has anyone done this repair and have some advice?

Thanks!

We had water damage in the bunk end; Jayco replaced it under warrantee. It seems I've read about hybrid and popup owners replacing parts of the bed platform with marine plywood. That would seem to be a fix. I would attempt to repair the bunk end while it is still attached. Possible delamination would also be a factor.

Not much to offer, but others will no doubt contribute. Best wishes for a successful repair and lots of great camping ahead.

I had to repair a bunk end a few years ago. Not too difficult.

To remove the bunk end you will open it up fully. Once open, you will see the screws that hold it in place on the 'bottom' of the door. I do not remember how many there are, 6, 9 or 12. Get something to support it when you unscrew them. Once undone, you can disconnect the cables that hold it up and it will be free to move around.

Make sure the insulation you use and glue are compatible - I found out the hard way and melted the foam insulation.

I have a document I wrote up. If you'd like it PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

I would appreciate seeing that

Do you recall the adhesive and type of foam board you used?

I have a 2010 23B and I had to remove the canvas to get it re-stiched and the hinges to the door was riveted, broken or loose, to the frame. I drilled out and replaced the rivets. My hinges were not screwed in.

In addition to whatScott91370 said the canvas needs to be unscrewed. Maybe 20 wood screws held the canvas onto the bunk door, some screws were badly rusted others broke off and I replaced thee screws with stainless screws and drilled new holes beside the broken screws and put new ones in.

Sorry about the delay.

The glue is StaBond E183 Glue and it is about $100 a gallon. The foam that should be used I had cut at a local place called Star R. I tried the pink foam board but the glue melted it.
