Our home base is Reno and always recommend Sparks Marina RV Park.
Grand Sierra is not much more than a parking lot.

I'm going to be staying at the Grand Sierra RV park for a week in July. Going up for a convention. I'll post a review and pictures once we get there!

I stayed across the mountain at Lake Tahoe KOA.
Very nice location for lots of site seeing, shaded spots and a beautiful mountain stream down one side.

Sounds good. If you have a chance to peek outside at any others that would be great. It would be a casino trip for us if we go. Reno is just over 14 hours from us on google, so we would expect about 16 with he trailer on

from CampgroundViews.com which is a website that has quite a few short video clips of different campgrounds we're thinking about going to. As was said, Grand Sierra looks to be a big parking lot without any grass, but will probably be just fine for our purposes.

As promised, we just got home from our trip to Reno where we spent a week at the Grand Sierra Resort in our trailer. There are pro's and con's to staying there. If you watched the video I posted earlier, at the 4-second mark, we were in that row, third spot in. It's interesting to note that some of the spots are asphalt and some are just gravel. Unfortunately we had one of the gravel spots.
First the good: Power (our site was 30amp only) never fluctuated, never went out. This was huge for us as it was hot the whole time we were there. The A/C ran fairly constantly during the day and periodically through the night. There are great times of the year to visit Reno and unfortunately this last week was not one of them! Another pro is that the Grand Sierra is a great hotel - the café was delicious and the staff were all very friendly, including the staff at the RV park. No regrets about the hotel or the people whatsoever! Also, the location is such that you're situated between the convention center and downtown, so if you have a need to go in either direction it's not all that far.
The not-so-good is that as Larry G said earlier, you're camping in a parking lot. There are very few trees (I can't recall seeing any, actually) and if you're unlucky enough to be camped on the gravel, you're going to be sweeping out your trailer a couple of times each day. We had a mat out front and a shoe-cleaner-brushy-thing that still didn't get all the gravel out of our shoes! If you're camping with pets, there are two fenced-in dog areas, but neither have any grass. They're just gravel. There are two spots that have grass, but they're not fenced in. I don't understand why they did it that way. During the day, it was simply too hot to walk the dog. He came out of the trailer once to use the bathroom, burned his paw on the asphalt and turned right around to go back in the A/C.
We took a drive to see the Boomtown KOA and for my money, it's a much nicer RV facility. Lots more trees and very close to Cabela's if you're into such things. It's a quieter facility and exactly what we would want. If we weren't going for a convention that was centered around the Grand Sierra and the Convention Center, we would have hitched up and moved here.
I didn't get a chance to see the Sparks Marina RV park, but if the Locals recommend it, I'd seriously consider it as well. It's very close to Scheels (like Cabelas but better in my opinion) where my favorite fudge can be had! :hihi: Seriously, it's awesome. I recommend the Truckee River Sludge and the Wolf Paw. Trust me.
So my $0.02, if you're looking for a hotel, the Grand Sierra is great. If you're looking for an RV park, I'd go with Sparks Marina or Boomtown KOA, probably in that order.
