replace cord coming from trailer to outlet

I want to replace the cord that is coming out of my X17Z to an outlet. does anyone know where I can get an outlet that will cover the hole that the cord that is coming from the trailer?

I have read where few folks on the forums do the mod to covernt from 30Amp cord to a 30Amp receptacle and detachable cord. Not sure what you current hole spacing is, but the link is a square receptable that seems like it should cover the existing home...may have to drill new screws though.

I drilled a new hole in the rear wall of my TT so that the cord would be more centrally located for ease of hooking up regardless of which side of the trailer the power pole is. It is also under the rear bunk which protects it from the weather.

As far as the old power door is concerned I just left it in place. I bought a lockable door about 8" square to put in its place so I could take advantage of some unused storage space where the old cord was wadded up but I never installed it.

Sometimes you have to add a piece of aluminum to mount the changeover kits to to fill the hole.

I want to change my pull out cord as well for the screw on 30A cord. My pull out cord looks like this

When I get my round pull out cover off I think I will have to use a square aluminum plate first before I can mount the change over kit to fit to look something like this.

Yes Roy this is what mine looks like as well but did not want to add something that did not look "original" to detract from the original look of the trailer. I am thinking the link above may cover the entire hole but I will need to do more investigation as my trailer is currently in a snow drift here in MN. (sort of)

I am also currently using my round hole pull out door for an additional 20AMP Extension Cord we plug into the camp ground 20AMP pedesalt connection. We use this to run a couple of our portable OIL-FILLED Electric heaters and only run the Propane furnace when it gets really cold.

When I get around to changing mine I will have to deal with this as well haha...

My present pull out cable door accepts the larger 30A cable as well as the smaller HD extension cord MALE PLUG end. I can push both of these back into the storage hole just fine when packing up for departure.

Sometimes the kit doesn't completely cover the hole. I built mine piece meal and mounted it on a piece of King Starboard. A piece of white cutting board from WalMart would work just as well. Don't forget to seal the edges.



I did the same thing to add a 20A inlet for extra capacity.

One benefit is being able to plug your trailer into shore power!! After the first time your cable gets knotted up inside the trailer and you spend an hour trying to untie it through the tiny access hole you'll be a believer.

With my detachable cord I can coil it up neatly every time and tuck it away in the front storage compartment.

However, I have a neighbor who had a detachable cord setup... he had the cord stolen from his driveway parked TT 3 times in 2 years.... those extension cables are worth a lot and they are easy steals....

Just wait, your time to untangle your cord will come.

A pair of whopper choppers and a thief can walk away with a "permanently" attached cord as well, so if the price of copper is high enough people are going to steal your cable whether it's a QD or hard wired style.

A few years ago, I was a parts guy at the local RV dealer. About that time the prices for scrap metal including copper were going through the roof.

A few locals who had their campers stored in outdoors or unsecured areas called me looking for replacement cords because their cords had been pulled out, cut off and stolen.

There were two possible solutions to replace the cord:
1- Get a 30 amp extension cord, whack of the female end and hard wire it to the camper like the original.
2- Convert it to a twist plug set-up where the cord can be removed and locked up.

No longer need to pull out the mess, or shove it back in. Also, Prevents mice from using the mouse hole as an entry point. They can and will run right up the cord and into the trailer.

The portable SurgeGuard EMS I have isn't twist locked and I wouldn't think that the female end on the EMS will reach the connection point. I am not certain that you would be able to mate the detachable shore power inlet on the TT to your SurgeGuard.

I didn't think of that!!! Thanks for pointing that out. maybe I will just leave well enough alone. I store my trailer at home so I do not worry about getting the cord stolen while stored.
