Roof Repair

So glad today is almost over, woke up this morning to a large branch on top of the TT and 6 small holes in the rubber roof. On my way to get the Eternabond tape to repair the holes I got a flat that cannot be repaired and the tire is not due in town until Friday as it is a special order......good times (sarcasm).

Anyway, I bought the Eternabond, and lap sealant. Does the lap sealant need to go on? The reason I ask is that I was thinking of not putting it on leaving the patches and then painting the roof with the Dicor Rubber Roof Acrylic Coating.

What is everyone's experience with Eternabond? I hated the look of the patches when I looked at the roof from inside the house, and thought the roof coating would make it look better while protecting the roof.

Thoughts please.

Sorry about your multiple misfortunes. From the sounds of things, it probably wouldn't have been a good day to buy a lottery ticket, visit a casino or bet on the ponies either. If it's any consolation, you don't have a corner on that market. I have a lot of days like that myself.

Back in 2008, I repaired a cut in my rubber roof (also the result of a falling branch) with Eternabond and never had a problem with it. Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything about the lap sealant. It's been so long, I only remember cleaning the damaged area with something before I applied the Eternabond tape, but with what, I don't know.

If you hate the look of the patches when you look at your roof from inside your house... then don't look at them. First of all, who really cares? It's only a roof. It's not anywhere near as unsightly as having a big embarrassing dent in the trailer from backing into something that everyone and their mother is going to ask you about. Secondly, no one can see patches anyway unless they're higher than the roofline; and how often does that happen? Don't think of them as patches; consider them to be "battle scars".

Battle Scars, I like that........I did a bit more research and found that the Dicor repair kit comes with the lap sealant. I threw a tarp over the trailer last night after I put the patches on, so this weekend I am going to take it off and put on the lap sealant.

I was all wound up yesterday, but now I slept on it for a night I am not as bothered about it as what I was. Guess it is like my old man used to say about buying a new truck. You might as well hit it with a hammer on the day you buy it then every other ding and dent will not bother you!
