Roof Vent covers

This is the cover I have: MaxAire. over a standard 14x14 vent. TT is SLX 261BHS.

Yeah i bought the Maxxair II's because they are taller and would allow the vent's to fully open (one is my shower vent powered fan, the other is a regular vent). I've used the normal MaxxAir's before with no issues, but I've also never had roof vents with these stupid elbows on them. I spent $4,000 on the extended warranty and don't wanna void it because they cant figure out how to make normal roof vents. The MaxxAir II'2 have 2 holes on each bracket, from what I remember the regular MaxAir only has 1 per bracket.

Maxair has slots in each of the L brackets. My 261BHS has no powered vent, so I leave it open except when running AC.

oh i know about the slots, but the slots are the wrong way as opposed to the direction these elbows are on the roof vent. on the roof vent they are parallel to the vent, on the MaxxAir covers there are not parallel.

Looks similar, but even Ventline doesn't carry covers for their roof vents. Those damn elbows are pissing me off.
I'm at the point where i don't care about the warranty anymore and i'm just gonna zipcut those elbows off so i can install a vent cover to have the vents open when it rains.
I was just gonna say use a multi-tool and trim them off. they don't look to even have a hole that would accommodate some sort of proprietary clip system cover.

After you cut, get a typical Max-air cover with the wide L brackets and screws that attach to the frame of your vent.

I have one typical max brand cover, where you have metal brackets and you screw into the sides of your vent fan frame...I put that one on each of my non-Maxair vents. Then I used the max air clip type cover for my actual max-air fan. I have a Jay Feather, so the main area vent is the max-type. Two other vents are run-of-the-mill with tiny fans included.

Yeah so I went out with the Maxxair II's and measured everything up. I can install the Maxxair ii's only if those elbows are removed. and I drill into the side of the roof vent, which means I will also have to remove the hard caulking that Jayco installed on these vents from factory.

any ideas on what I should replace the caulking with on the roof vent?

IMHO you have two options. The best is fresh caulk but less of it and only where you need it. You might have to remove more caulk and redo a larger area or Eternal Bond style tape. Opinions are mixed on using Eternal Bond on top of caulking. Some say it's fine and some say don't.

Maybe someone smarter will come up with a third.

On numerous applications (including factory fan roof vents), I have used Eternabond tape and Eternabond caulk over factory Dicor with absolutely no problems. It has excellent bond and durability over the caulk. I always seal the perimeter edges of the tape with Eternabond caulk. If you decide to use Eternabond, make sure you follow the application instructions:
  1. Clean the surface with Eternabond aerosol cleaner or mineral spirits (important for bond/adhesion).
  2. Prime the surface with Eternabond aerosol primer (important for bond/adhesion).
  3. Apply the tape; press and smooth it into the the contours of the caulk without stretching it (important for tape glue bond/adhesion).
  4. Place a small bead if Eternabond caulk around the tape edges and where the tape pieces overlap (important for edge protection to prevent edge rollup).
If you have to remove some of the Dicor, the Eternabond caulk an tape will provide a long-lasting, excellent seal. I hope you resolve this soon. It looks like you're on the right track. (y)

Well the problem has bee resolved. I ended up having to buy Maxxair 1+ covers. they fit perfectly on those elbows in the pics. didn't have to do any drilling whatsoever. required a little bit of cutting out some of the caulking around those elbows. but pain free and no extra caulk required to fill in holes.

A picture would be worth 999 words.
Yeah sorry was beat yesterday, body is complaining today. here;s the installed pics.
I had to cut out the caulking in order to get the brackets to fit onto the elbows. But this was so easy only took an hour ish to install.
I had more issues trying to install exterior LED Strip lighting Wish this trailer came with the lights
