I have been with State Farm for 50 years with Home and Auto insurance. Pretty good multi car and Home discounts. I found them to be fairly competitive with other companies on previous Campers and Motorhomes so I didn't shop carriers. When I purchased my Melbourne 24L my rates doubled over my Class A. Sticker Shock to say the least!!! Yesterday I received a letter from Good Sam which I am a member, asking to quote my RV insurance so for the heck of it I called their agent. After giving him the information on myself and my RV he sent me a quote for my RV through Progressive Insurance and I was shocked to see the rate was half of what I am paying through State Farm. I compared the coverage and it was very comparable. but did not include Roadside service which was included with State Farm for only $11.00/year. Still sounds interesting but not sure weather to make the switch. I have had Insurance on several Motorcycles with Progressive over the years but never had a claim so not sure how good they are about handling claims.

Have any of you guys insuring through Progressive and if so what do you think of the company?

Appreciate your input,
Thanks

I have had State Farm for decades and feel your pain. I priced policies 6 months ago and saw Progressive was about $400 cheaper than what I was paying at State Farm. Was going to change but saw some bad reviews on this forum so just stuck with what I had.

Regarding the roadside assistance through State Farm, well, sure hope you don't need to use it. I did and it was a nightmare.

Had a tire blow out on a major freeway in San Diego and contacted State Farm for a tow. 7 hours later I was still parked on the shoulder because they couldn't get their act together.

They would try to get a tow service to aid but each time they tried, it failed. The tow company would contact me and say they couldn't handle my class C rig. 5 attempts later I finally gave up with State Farm and just called a local mobile tire service. Within an hour I was repaired and back on the road. Funny thing, right before I was leaving, State Farm called me and asked if I still needed assistance. Yeah, bite me! :cussing:

I raised a stink and was finally reimbursed for a small portion of my $950 bill. That is why I decided to look at other policies but each one appears to have issues.

Hopefully you will get a number or responses as I wish to see what others have experienced.

I had Progressive coverage several years ago. I did have a claim for some damage on our RV (passenger side mirror replacement). The response from Progressive was excellent. Even when the job was finished, I discovered that the RV dealer left some work undone and it was something I could handle (camera controller replacement). I did not want to take the RV back to the dealer seeing as the work performed by the dealer was not acceptable to me. Progressive reimbursed me for my time and cost of camera controller.
I went with National General (Good Sam) for a year but went right back to Progressive for the RV and vehicles as the coverage for the cost was better.
Will go with Progressive for the house and motorcycles in 2024.

We have an excellent local insurance company that we insure home/toys/business. They are excellent and very good to us. In some cased we pay a bit more for a particular policy, but they only deal with the best companies out there, and will go bat for you without hesitation. They quoted progressive and no one else. Their opinion is they are head and shoulder above others. I didn't argue. Our premium for the Pinnacle is $970/year. Yes, just paid it and how i remember

Progressive and AAA for road assistance.

Yes I am checking on that combo right now. Keep reading complaints from other RV'ers about Progressive raising their rates a lot for no reason!!
I will say in 6 years State Farm never raised my rates. But why should they when they are charging 50% more than others?!?!

An often discussed topic and here is some recent info that was posted here.

Insurance is a "location" subject. Your lower rates with a company may not be the same for someone in another state, or even city. On top of that your credit score can benefit or kill you. So while you might get a good quote from a company, my quote, because I live in a state with terrible drivers and lots of claims might not be, in-fact my Farmers quote always beats others and I check every year. On top of that some companies count glass claims as at fault (Progressive) and up your rate when you call for a quote, while Farmers does not.

I found that insurance segments states by "region". It depends on how close we are to a large population, and maybe the claim ratio to it.

I have the Goldwing through Progressive, but no claims as yet, so no help there. The vehicles through Farmers. The house was with them too until they jacked the rate, so I switched to Safeco.....which is owned by (wait for it)....Farmers. Whoda thought.

Seems like every few years I have a conversation with our agent, and get things adjusted enough to make me a tad happier.

I have my two Jeeps with USAA and boat and motorhome thru USSA Progressive. House is ASI which is part of progressive. I have 1k towing thru my 8 year warranty I just purchased from Eagle Vision which is a policy broker. The policy is administered by American Assurance Corporation.
I have had to use progressive for house hurricane, car and FW. None my fault and they were great. Hope it stays like that.

In NorCal I pay State Farm $410 a year for my 2019 Triton 3551 (40' 5ver Toy Hauler) full coverage and only $100 deductible. This includes $10k of solar/battery & inverter upgrades. I've been with State Farm for 30+ years and have my home, 3 trucks, a motorcycle and my RV with them. I've filed a few claims over the years and they've always been great.

I've had the displeasure of dealing with Progressive a couple times when I/we were hit by one of their customers and I would never have a policy with them. They tried to only authorize short cut repairs but luckily I deal with a quality body shop and they would not do the crappy work Progressive wanted. They also tried to only pay for 2 days rental car when the car was in the shop for a month+. I fought with them back and forth so they added a couple more days to the authorization but I wouldn't accept their answer. I called them out on their Facebook page with all the details and got a call within 15 minutes from a regional manager that approved the entire rental bill.

National general

We had Goodsam ins thru national general, price was good until I made a claim then my payment doubled. We ended up going to state farm for half the price and same coverage. Just putting it out there.

Amica and AAA

I have had Amica coverage on all my vehicles (including RV) and homeowners for decades. I have had claims and Amica's response has always been top notch. The cost might seem high but I always get a substantial annual dividend from them on each of my policies, which nets the cost out to be less.
I use AAA for Roadside assistance ("Plus RV" level) with the side benefit of Triptik travel routing and extensive travel guides.

Progressive gave us the best deal with the best coverage for an RV. Then we attached three cars and wow. Been with them for over 5 years. But Nationwide gave us a better deal on the house.

I have Progressive and AAA for roadside assistance. Keep in mind for those of you who hit that magic 75 yrs. of age. Your insurance coverage on vehicles will jump up drastically no matter what insurance company your with. Just one of the perks for those golden years...

Well that sucks, I got 5 years to go than before I get screwed.

FYI,

... based on Progressive's data on how age impact insurance rates, car insurance for seniors typically only starts increasing at age 75+. Even then, the average 75+ premium is still lower than premiums for the 45–49 range.

Age Premium and change
45-49 $120 (-1%)
50-54 $111 (-8%)
55-64 $100 (-10%)
65-74 $96 (-3%)
75+ $101 (+4%)
Note:Table represents car insurance rates by age based on Progressive Personal Auto policies sold countrywide from September 2020 to August 2021.
