RV route planning

Is there a website or book that will help plan the best RV routes? I'm quickly realizing that the route you would take in a car is often times different than what you would take with a RV.

I ask now before I end up in trouble!
Consider looking at trucker-specific GPS. Just noticed Rand McNally sells them, bet others do too.

Has anyone taken their RV on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry? We are considering it for our trip to Assateague Island next week. I tried to guesstimate the cost- thinking around $125 for a family of five and a 35' camper & tow vehicle. Not sure if it is really worth it…

You can definitely do it, but you will most likely not make it this late due to space required and the season. Worth a shot though.

DE1, 113 to OC is about 2.5 hrs from DEMBB without traffic.

Does the Randy McNally Motor Carriers atlas include information on steep grades? We took one of our first trips last week through down I-40 and I-81 in Tennessee. Driving a car on a hilly interstate was sure different from towing a trailer!

Since we have a diesel with an off-road package (exhaust brake and hill-descent brake), that isn't a concern for us. To your specific question, I don't recall and the atlas is stored in our TT. For a quick answer, you might want to email Rand McNally specifically on that question - but I DO know it includes lots of trucker-related info. Also, where there are nasty grades (e.g., Grapevine in California), there a lots of U-Tube videos to give you a sense of what you are facing.

I would suggest that you take 295 south into Del and than go down rt. 13 to Assateague. I lived in Burlington County and I think that would be easier than driving to Cape May although the ferry ride would be nice. By the time you drive to Cape May you could already be in Del from Berlin. Not sure what it would cost you for the Ferry but I would think that it would be cheaper going down 295 I would call to ask what the cost would be as compared to making a guesstimate.

Might need a reservation with a large rig. Even if not needed it would be a good idea to make sure you get on the ferry at the time you want, if you choose to go that route.
