Safe-T-Plus steering stabilizer

Been looking at adding a Safe-T-Plus steering stabilizer on my 31SS Greyhawk.... has anyone already installed one or some other type of steering stabilizer?

Installed Steer-Safe in our E-450 Melbourne. It works OK, and much better then stock set-up. This fall I installed Bilstein shocks because of a tire wear problem. I'm not sure if this solved the tire wear but it sure has a positive impact with handling on our local roads. We leave shortly for our winter outing and will know more on our return in April. We have also installed a heavier rear sway-bar. All three installs have had a positive impact on handling but I won't advise on which one was the most positive. If I had a do-over I might install the Bilsteins before the Steer-Safe. Good luck. Leo

Leo.... thanks for the input.... the Greyhawk came with Helwig suspension helpers in the rear... I thought about the Bilsteins too.... I find on some roads I am "boxing the wheel" to keep heading straight....

Thanks for your input. We are picking up our "new" Melbourne next month. Sounds like you've had yours for a while. Anything else needed on the Melbourne?
I was told that a second coach battery was needed...... any thoughts?
Does not seem to be a lot of Melbourne people on this site. Most seem to be Grayhawks.

leojct: Please let me know the out come of your winter trip in the Melbourne. I've not seen a lot of input on the Melbourne on this site. Don't know if that's bad or good. Would be interested in "anything/tips". We pick up our new 29D later in May.

I am a new RVer. I have only been on a couple of trips so far but thought i was continually fighting to keep it straight. Thought it was just that I'm learning but I see some posts that others feel the same. The Greyhawk came with sway bar and steering stabilizer. But should I consider replacing/upgrading them? I also talked to someone about air bags on the shocks.

What have other folks done?

I checked on Jayco's website and they don't show a steering stabilizer on the chassis equipment list.... are you sure there is a stabilizer on your Greyhawk?

Drove our new 29D 620 miles on I-95-N. 55-60 was all over the lane. 65-70 smoothed out like a boat on water but eat the gas. Going to get something to help with the lower speeds.

My Jayco dealer recommended Blue Ox's Tiger Trax. But I have decided to go with the Safe-T-Plus after reader responses on this forum.

Well, change in plans! I went to have the Safe-T-Plus installed and the part had not yet arrived. However, while I was there, one of the mechanics noted that the motorhome was out of alignment - so I told them to go ahead and do a realignment since I was there.

I was pleased to see an improvement in the steering issue - although it is certainly not perfect now. But I am now waiting to see if I still want to get the Safe-T-Steer.

(The alignment was about $500 less than the Safe-T-Steer.) Stay tuned, the story continues...

The Steersafe was the first upgrade that I added to my 31FS. I was expereincing the same problem keeping it in a straight line. The Steersafe cured that problem for me. Before, I found driving the rig even on the freeway was fatiguing, after installing the Steersafe much much easier. I was on the fench for a while but what tipped me over the edge was a camping world promotion on free installation, which I took advantage of. I'd recommend the Steersafe.

While that fixed the wandering, I was still dissapointed with the handling of the rig especially on twisty roads while cornering so I just upgraded to Bilstein shocks all around and added the Hellwig front and rear swap bars. The difference after this upgrade was remarkable. There is much less body roll while cornering and more steering control. This has given me much more confidence in driving the rig. If you can afford it - I bought on-line and had my dealer install total around $900 - I would highly recommend it.

We just came back from a 800 mle trip around Oregon and there was also much less cabin noise and rattle using the Bilsteins over stock, the Bilsteins seemed to eat up ruts in the road that would normally be transmitted straight to the rig with stock shocks.
