Sealing the paint on exterior at dealership worth it?

Hello I am just getting my first trailer. It is a jay flight 32bhds. It has aluminum siding on it. The dealer is trying to sell me on getting it “sealed”. To stop fading. They say it gives 10 years warranty on fading? It is $1000 Canadian. Seems like a lot. Is this worth it? Or one of those just pass on it. If it was fiberglass would that make any difference on everyone’s thoughts?

Thanks for any insight.

It's an upsell on the salesman's part, who probably makes a commission on the sale. You can accomplish the same thing just by giving it a coat of good poly wax or ceramic spray once a year or so. Just my take on it, and I'm sure others will give their opinions also.

As a general rule those are not worth it.

In my case the previous owner had bought a package and I transferred it when I bought the RV. Turned out to be a good deal because the Arizona sun had done damage to the front cap and the company paid to have it refinished. I would not think Canada would have the same sun issues.

Pass...extended warranty, pass. Interior fabroc protection, pass. Gap Insurance, pass. Roadside assistance, pass (probably included with your insurance). Insurance through dealer, pass. It's all just additional profit for them...at much higher prices than you can get on the open market.

I'm one who thought it was worth it and did the job, but again it depends on how much you trust your dealer. I was told they offered it at cost to their customers to help protect the rigs and the price seemed to reflect it. At the time it was well under $1,000 in 2014. We had it on the PINNACLE and a good heavy rain took the bugs off the cap and we not have black streaks. I even had a couple decals on the back and when I removed them after almost 3 years you could not see where they had been, so obviously the surrounding surface didn't fade. The product we were sold at that time was warranted for 5 years if I remember. After I had the slide crack repairs the repaired/painted areas were treated at no charge since that was stated in the warranty.

Well Snowcarver...there you have it. As you can see we all have different opinions. I will add...I never paid for any of it...its just my opinion. Grumpy did pay and it turned out to be a value for him. Sadly...you're back where you started. Let us know the end result. Good luck!

Nope, just creates more profit for the dealer..... Just as the extended warranty... Some people b believe in Extended Warranties, but if you are mechanical inclined, IMO they are waste..

We have an aluminum-siding trailer — I wash it after every trip and give it a good wax job every spring. In the winter it has a cover over it. It still looks brand new. I doubt lightening my wallet by $1,000 would make it look any better. I think you’re wise to pass.

Full disclosure, we were brand new to RVs when we bought our rig and I did what I never do — purchased an after-market warranty. I never used it and wished I had saved the money. Live and learn.

Tell them if they the camper is going to fade that bad that maybe you should look at a different brand. LOL. Pass on it!

I'm embarrassed to say this but we took the sucker bait and purchased the ceramic paint sealing add-on when we purchased our trailer. We had to leave the trailer with our dealer for a few extra days to have the paint sealing work done, but I wasn't there to actually witness the job being performed and our trailer didn't look any different than when we first purchased it. Did the dealer actually do the job as advertised? Or did they simply take my money and laugh all the way to the bank? :(

I purchased the 5 year protection and used it. The decals started to peel and the dealer replaced them under the warranty. When they removed the decals the paint had faded and they replaced the faded aluminum panels. It took over 9 months to get the parts but I saved over $3,000. overall. Is it worth the original cost of $550. ..... hmm. That is a personal decision but I found it worth it in my case. Safe travels with the new rig.

I have a 2007 Jayco, and am constantly fighting discoloration on the sides. For me, its a pain to have to constantly wax this thing to keep it shiny and clean. If there was a sealer that would last longer that 6 months to a year, I'd be on it.

And yes, I have tried all the waxes and cleaners and sealers that are out there for our RV's. They look great for about two to 3 months on my RV, then it begins to discolor again.

I have a Jayco and the paint peeled off on the front top is this commom and the only place I found in a distance that I would drive, new paint and decals with a clear coat was 2,000 dollars, I think it high, but I could be wrong, what do you all say about the price, thanks in advance, Joe

I read about a yacht owned by a contractor. The yacht's dingy was called "Original Contract". The yacht was named "Change Orders". When your sales rep has completed the sale of the RV and moves on to Financing, Paint Protection, Extended Warranty, etc., he has jumped from the dingy to the yacht.

I bought the unit second hand, I will probably check around some more, for the rest of the trailer I got some liquid from a place in Florida, wipe it on lightly and about 2 minutes between coats and I did five of them and really looks good a year has passed and still looks great, If I get the front top pained will do that to it after a short period of time.

Please share this "liquid" product.
