We bought our first travel trailer just over a year ago, a 2024 Jayco Jayflight. I am taking it in next week for some warranty work on interior panels and the service department is recommended a service package that includes checking furnace, AC, refrigerator, roof and awning. It ain't cheap. Is this something we should be doing? We took ours out for about 5 total weeks last year. 4 of those weeks were all one trip up the east coast to the Boston area.

Sounds like a waste of money to me. I assume their checks would consist of turning the item on and seeing if it works. That is something the user should be doing. How hard is it to press a switch to see if the thing turns on. I would just try the items that they want to "service" and if it fails to operate, have them fix it.

It's a little more than just turning something on or off, at least as explained to me. The furnace specifically, the guy said they take apart to clean various parts and reinstall. I agree, I'm not sure it's worth what they're saying, $1400, especially for a travel trailer that's just over a year old but I wanted to see what others thought. Thanks for the reply.

I doubt that your furnace will be that dirty in such a short time. I assume they would just open it up and blow out the dust. Getting to the furnace could be a chore but I would wait until there is a problem with it. I bought my 2017 Greyhawk new in late 2016 and have not had any issues with the items they want to service. Yes I had a big list of items that I personally repaired rather than take it in for warranty and having it sit there for months.

Their price seems to be a bit of a gouge to me especially for a new rig. Odds are if the items haven't experienced problems yet they are good to go. The AC filter can be cleaned by the user if you have run it a lot. I suppose the fridge's flue could be cleaned if you have run it on propane a lot. Once again I never cleaned mine and have used propane a lot. The awning, well, I wonder what service they could do there. The roof does warrant checking now and then to make sure it doesn't need new sealant around the openings.

If the cost of this service is no problem for you and want to go ahead with it, I would ask for details on what they do for that price and see how much of it you would be able to do yourself. Yes it may be piece of mind but that price could pay for a number or large repairs if needed.

Typically you encounter issues pretty quickly when you get a new rig. This is all just my experience with what I have owned in the last 30+ years. Let's hope others chime in with their opinions.

Thanks for that follow up. I had the same thoughts about the furnace. We hardly used it in the first year. Appreciate the input.

I must agree with most on this subject. We purchased our 5th wheel in 2018 and have lived in it full time from the date of purchase. We have never had the furnace serviced and it works great after 7 years still. Same with awnings and other items. We drain the water heater once a year, keep an eye out on others. If you want things checked going forward I would suggest using a mobile tech. They seem to do a much better job and for less money. I stopped into where we bought our unit to check on something I was thinking of doing. They had a price list of service options taped to the counter. They would check our batteries for charge and water levels for the bargain price of $99 each. Clean the filters to the AC for $69 each. All they are is a foam filter that you take out, wash off and put back in. 10 minutes total each. Good luck and enjoy your travel trailer and have a great time doing it.

I assume you are in McKinney, TX. If so, I’m curious where you are taking it for service. We bought a Pinnacle in 2023 and I can’t seem to find a service dealer on the Dallas side of town.

This is a little of topic, but I am curious about the interior panel issue you’re experiencing. We have a couple of panels that keep bulging on a 2023 Jayflight.

That's what is happening to ours as well. One right as you walk in on the left and one in the master bedroom at the seam by the window.

We have to take it to the Camping World in Sherman where we bought it. There is a Camping World in Lewisville now that is actually much closer but they said since they don't sell Jaycos at that location, they can't service them there.

Both Advance Auto and Auto Zone will be glad to check your battery for free. I believe they still check them with a load tester. Handy to have in addition to a hydrometer for batteries you can add water to, although not useful for folks with sealed batteries

Hi, First off your first mistake was buying a Jayco. We have recently swtiched brands to a new 2025 XXXXX.
I found that Jayco will go out of their way to avoid warranty claims. The checks they wish to bill you for should be standard customer for free service. After all it is only a "check" and if something is wrong it could very well be covered under warranty.
I won't go into detail but we had our frustrations with our Jayco and after being a member of this forum for several years have read a copious amount of sad stories involving factory defects.
I sincerely hope that your issues are dealt with satisfactorily.

Regards
Rick

Inspect your roof.Look for damage, drying sealant and make sure there is nowhere for water to get in.This is the most important preventative action.

If you are so proud of your new unit why XXXXXXX?Our Jayco has been great. You need to follow up on warranty work at least every 2 weeks or less. You are your best advocate.Call manufactorer to see if claim has been filed. If it has and been approved follow up with dealer to be sure they ordered parts. My dealer replace my rear window in 2 hours once part was received.

What brand is XXXXX that you swtiched (sic) to?

Below is a partial cut-and-paste from SOB forum. It's current, but obviously I don't know if it's XXXXX.

" ... On our first "away trip" the rear bedroom slider would not retract. Called roadside. The got it closed within 12 inches. Limped home. Waiting 4 weeks for the dealer to fix it.

The refrig door swung open while driving and broke off! Thin plastic hinges. Now I strap it down before driving.

The "auto jack" cylinders have external springs to retract the jacks. They fall off. Come of easily but impossible to put back on!! Without the springs the jacks will not totally retract.

The status board has gone dark twice.

The refrigerator won't work on LP. Fixed 3 times. (its on the front slider a bad design)

Multiple roof leaks. We camped in the rain last week. Now concerned about BLACK MOLD developing. ... "

With no Lemon Law in place, every RV purchase regardless of the manufacturer is a roll of the dice.

First off if you are so unhappy with Jayco and have purchased another brand, by all means share with us your side of the story in the process of sharing positive feedback on your current brand. If the Jayco forum now offers you nothing that would benefit you on your current rig, which is not Jayco, what is your intent of offering such a negative reply on a topic dealing with service packages?

Service packages offered by rv dealers under some brand name changes as often as we all change our tee shirts. And what one local dealer sells you may not be accepted a thousand miles from your selling dealer either.

Most here that have ever owned a new rv or have read up on service packages has nothing to do with Manufacturer's refusals to provide warranty service. This applies to anyone that has searched about paying the extra bucks for extended warranty packages.
