Severe Rust on new Jayco

Rock, I hope it doesn't turn into anything like that. I would be stuck there because if it is only three days I won't be bringing the toad to drive back home. Home is two days out and two days back.

Yours should only take a few days. Tell them to tie wrap up any wires hanging down to keep road debris from snagging it.
I know about the drive mine was from Fl.
After driving on the AlCAN my underside is covered with there oil/tar covered fine gravel road work and mud.
Safe travels and let us know how it turns out.

Rock,
At the last minute I decided to tow the car. That was a good decision as once the people at the factory got a look at it; they said that the rust removal would take up to two weeks because of scheduling problems. Since I was going to drive back home I gave them an additional list of about a dozen smaller issues. It took them just over a month to get everything done including the major rust and driveshaft. It is still not perfect but I am happy with the result.

On the way up, the radio and generator quit working. The radio was caused by the rust; the generator was repaired by the Onan rep and we do not know what failed but it is now working fine.

Jayco and the dealer are splitting the cost so I do appreciate that as well as the hospitality at Jayco. Ross Reitz was my service adviser and he did a great job. I was informed online of everything that was being done and when completed. They even got a Ford tech to the factory to take care of a couple of Ford issues.

It was 2,300 miles round trip twice but worth it as everything is working as it should be.

My wife and I will be using it this weekend as our grandson is in a High School football playoff out of town.

Thanks to all of the good people at Jayco that made this possible.

Glad you got it fixed to your satisfaction. Good decision to take the Toad. I never expected mine to be there that long either.

Sadly, this 4600 mile odyssey probably cost you that in dollars...or more. Driving a mid-sized truck 2300 miles (once each way) costs far more than $1.50 to $2.00 per mile. And your TOAD did the other 2300 miles at minimum at the IRS rate of $0.67/mile. Depending on your TOAD, it could have been significantly more.

Bear in mind that those miles "age" the vehicle and cause it to depreciate. And let's not forget your time and the associated travel expenses for lodging and meals...assuming you didn't drive roughly 1150 miles straight through in the TOAD...twice.

I'm glad it's fixed, but you might consider trying to get some compensation for the travel expenses.

Ain’t gonna happen. I drove mine from Fl to there. Left truck at airport. Flew to Tampa and rented a car to drive to the panhandle. Than rented to drive back to Tampa and fly back. Then drove back to the panhandle. Mayor money spent but no freakin choise. Jayco refused any comp. And mine was for the beginning of the recall of the suspension rubs and major other stuff including the roof and generator. My suspension and outrigger recalls started with my FW. Mine was there first to figure out the fixes. And all on my dime.

Jim, It did cost a lot. However, I couldn't find anyone near me that would do the job. None of the Jayco dealers or independent shops. My only other option was to empty the bank account with an attorney. Ideally, the unit should have been replaced and if I were younger; then I would have pursued that route.

I don't know if I would ever purchase another vehicle of any type but you can bet that I will look underneath it before I sign any papers.

I thought that I was getting a good deal from Gregg Orr Marine and RV but they knew what they were selling.

I really hope the industry would take some steps to prevent this from happening if they are going to deliver these units in winter weather and drive through road salt. I would love to see some hard nose attorney file a class action suit against the entire industry. I know I am not the only one that has gotten burned.
