Over the last few years my boondocking has been increasing, and I'm always looking for new places to go. I've even been working on upgrading and adding mods to my Eagle that are more conducive to boondocking (LED's, Deep Cycle Batteries, TriMetric battery monitor, etc.).

Presque Isle Rustic CG is located along Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on the west end of the Porcupine Mountains . The area offers plenty of hiking trails, streams, waterfalls, no cell phone reception, and a lot of "piece & quiet". Not unusual for an occasional black bear to roam thru the CG either.

The campground has two hand pumps for filling water jugs, and vault toilets. The paved road leading to the CG is 16 miles long and only few homes during the first mile or two. My campsite backed up to the bluffs of Lake Superior which was great for my rear living room floorplan.

Check out the thumbnails below.

Bob, When I saw the last of your thumbnails, I thought of El Capitan State Beach. I think it's considered one of the most sunset scenic camp sites in Calif. It has the tree's just as yours look in that last pic. I think it was campsite #34 or #84. No dump/electric at c/g (maybe water?).

I thought boon docking was camping at walmart... this looks quite a step up!

thats Wal-marting or pavement camping... REAL boondocking is out in the woods.. no campground just a nice quiet spot... the mantra of real boondockers is leave it like you found it, or cleaner... I dont even leave a campfire ring behind...

Rustic eagle, I was raised in that "neck of the woods", what a beautiful place to be to truly enjoy the four seasons that it has to offer. Nice pics!

Beautiful pictures and area. I haven't been back to Michigan, where I use to live, for years. Seems though, when I was camping in a tent on the Michigan side of Lake Superior back in the late 40s that the Michigan side had a large rocky fairly flat shore and the Canadian side had huge cliffs. I can remember the heavy rain storms we encountered while tent camping.

I have only boondocked twice so far. In 2010 a month after I bought my Designer I went to Road Atlanta for the Petit Le Mans. That is the my camp site in the first picture. Not a very good spot especially considering the diesel generator that my neighbor ran continuously for the entire 4 days. I could never sit outside because his generator was on his left side. But there is a pecking order to get better sites and this was my first year.
The second picture is from the 2011 Petit Le Mans and you can see a much better site. The third picture is taken from the back of my site which over looks the track. This will be my permanent site for future races unless a better one is offered. Another good thing about this site is that the site to my Designer's right side is an RV site obviously, but the man that has had it for years just tent camps on it which gives me a lot more room on that side.

Ed,

I agree, the most recent site is much better...., and with a nice view of the track. With the tent on the one side must also provide a better view as well.

Cool, another Le Mans fan, I have camped at Road America for the ALMS race for the last 5 years. Next month I am heading to Sebring for the 12 Hours of Sebring and this summer I plan to add Mid-Ohio to my list too.

Soldier Lake National Forest Campground, Michigan UP, July 2013. I liked this campground so much I camped at two different sites:
