Folks I could use some recommendations. We are going to buy a retracking roof cover for our slide. The slide is about 8' long and we have never had one before. We could use some help what with brands are good. I will install myself .

Thanks again

I just had a Dometic slide topper installed on my slide (93 1/2" flange-to-flange) and happy thus far with the product and mounting.

With any slide topper manufacture first confirm the model and proper size (important) of slide topper for your specific slide width (flag-to-flange)....., each manufacture has a sizing chart.

The slide topper sizing chart may not reflect the actual fabric width but the overall roller length (cap-to-cap). Also, in many cases the mounting hardware is a separate order and not included with the topper fabric roll.

Depending on the brand/model slide topper, confirm that the anti-billow hardware is included with the mounting hardware.

Also, some Jayco model's already have the slide topper fabric 'mounting rail' installed on the sidewall (sometimes part of the gutter rail), otherwise insure it's included with the slide topper order.

Do a google search......there are you tube videos showing DIY installations, on line retailers explaining how to order (size measurements etc). I bought my "topper" from Amazon, installed it in about an hour (with a helper). Dealer can do an install, shop around. Do a search on this site - literally hundreds of posts re: slideout awnings. The research will take a little time, but you be well informed before you pull out your wallet.

I recently installed a Lippert Solera that I ordered from Amazon.

Everything was included for the price (shipping as well, which many places get you for a hefty chunk because it'll be "freight" delivery), pretty decent installation instructions, and all went well. Time will tell how I like the unit itself overall.

Additional items to have on hand that aren't generally included:

Butyl Tape
Caulking of your choice - to seal the top edge / sides of the j-rail track. I also used this under the roller mounting brackets on the slide wall vs dealing with the butyl tape compressing and oozing out for a year to come.
