Rack-n-Pinion Slideout:
Our dinette slideout has never stop squealing and moaning. We have it adjusted very well; we cleaned it (and keep it clean) very well; and we have used 3-n-1 RV Slideout dry lube on the rails, the gears, and as much as possible in the rail tube/housing.
Before cleaning the rails, we noticed that they had what looked like black grease on the sides. The LCI manual says that the slides do not need lubrication. The rails also have what look like rubber or plastic wear marks/streaks down the length of the sides. It looks like the rails are dragging on something rubber or plastic. I say rubber or plastic because their black paint is still intact. If it were metal on metal, I would expect the paint to be scraped off at the point of contact.
The only thing I have not done is drop the underbelly cover and lube gears and contact points under the trailer. It has done this since new. We asked the dealer to address it three times. After I caught the dealer tech (generous term) kicking the dinette closed and blasting everything in sight (including the tires, the walls, and frame) with standard WD40, I determined that I was being too kind to assume that they would have a clue. The dealer service "manager" told me not to worry about it, that it would likely stop after use.
I am concerned that there could be a wear issue at play. I am also curious about the black grease and scraping evidence on the rail sides, especially since LCI says it does not need lube. Maybe the dealer put the grease on it(?). Short of dropping the underbelly cover to dry lube parts, are there any other thoughts about this?
