Hello,
Going to travel to smoky mountains in july for a week. Need some advice on some good campgrounds for kids and pets.

We went last October. We would have liked to stay at a state park (we prefer those) but long story short we ended up at the Gatlinbug
/Pigeon Forge KOA. It is great for kids and pets. It is also pretty centrally located for activities as well as access to the mountains. They do pack people in like sardines though so I would recommend sites 115-122 which give you a little more room if you have a smaller RV (ours is around 22’ but there were some a little bigger than ours). The pull through sites seemed ok also.

We camped at Camp LeConte in Gatlinburg, TN a few years back and loved it. https://www.campleconte.com/ It's about twenty minutes from the park entrance and I wouldn't hesitate to go back--really nice people.

The road from Sevierville to Pigeon Forge is loaded with every kind of attraction you can possibly imagine--shows, museums, go karts, water slides, you name it. We went to some kind of Hatfield and McCoy dinner show. The food was "OK" but the show was very entertaining and the kids loved it. If you go to Dollywood be sure to ride the train--best ride in the park in my opinion (but then, I love trains).

When you get to the National Park all the glitzy tacky entertainment stuff disappears and it's beautiful. Be sure to drive all the way up to Clingman's Dome and hike the rest of the way to the top if you can make it.

We are planning a similar trip and we decided on the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge KOA. We will spend a lot of time hiking in the mountains but when the day is over we wanted access to the trolley. We've been to Gatlinburg many times and parking can be a challenge.

We decided to stay in Sevierville instead. Found the Riverside RV park. They have a nice playground for smaller kids. No pet run but a large grass area for walking them. And, there is also plenty of space to go fishing in the little river there.

Also away from the heavy traffic through Pigeon Forge yet close enough to go out to eat or see the sights if you want.

For adults there is a Bass Pro Shop, Buds Gun shop, Lodge cast iron outlet and a Coleman outlet store near the RV park.

It is nice enough we use it as a stopover when traveling on I40.

It is not as convenient to get into the Smokey Mtns as you have to drive through the other two towns to get there.

Check out Adventure Bound campground, it's a little off the main drag in Gatlinburg. Tons of fun stuff to do there, plus it's not right on the parkway. I love in Knoxville, we just got back from a weekend in Gatlinburg for my wife's b-day getaway (hotel, no camper yet). Or, if you can camp dry, check out Elkmont. No power, no hookups, but nice, right on the river. We tent camped last June with our daughter, and it got chilly at night. That's in the National Park.

Anchor Down looks amazing. Right on Douglas Lake..we go there for vacation every summer
