Solar Panel to keep batteries topped off - Jayflight 23RB

2015 Jay Flight 23RB...all lights LED.

Not necessarily going to be boondocking, just want a Solar Panel(s) to keep the 2 - 12 volt batteries topped off. This would be permanently mounted to roof.

Not trying to run any major appliances, just want enough juice for the lights and heater fan. How many watts panel(s) needed?

Your furnace will be the power hog, especially if you camp in cold temps and it runs alot.

Find your amp draw on your 12v loads.
Find your battery capacity, lead acid should only be discharged to 50%. Solar panels work best when pointed at the sun, in the winter my flat mounted panels produce nearly half of summer power, throw in cloudy days and less daylight hours, you loose even more.

Lots of variables to consider.

I tossed two 100 watt panels on top of ours for this reason. It seems to work for us, but we have one 12V SLA battery.

I think this is one of those situations where you'll not regret having "too much". Still, I'd think 200 watts is a good starting point.

Get a decent charge controller that'll allow you to grow, try it out and see how things go.
