Where we go camping I have to unhook to get level and my bars end up get in the dirt. I made a prototype of a simple contraption out of junk to hold my bars. They just slip over the tongue and bolt screws against the tongue to hold it in place.

Hey that's a good idea, beats putting them back in the storage area ! mind if i use your idea ...

First I've seen of that design. Specific to the round bar set up, and works. Most I've seen are clips where the bars snap on the A-frame, kind of like those broom holder things.

I never take my bars off when I unhook. I raise the TV & TT up then relieve pressure from the bars. Pull the pin on the hitch and lower the jack until there is little if any pressure on the hitch and drive out leaving the equalization hitch intact and in place on the TT. I leave the lock on the ball hitch and put a locking pin through the hitch and just leave the whole thing attached to the TT. No muss no fuss and don't have to find a place to store it. I saw someone else do this and it is way faster and more convenient.

Handy on those brackets!
Had mine welded on in the 70's first TT with a Reese DWH. If the bars are oiled or greased it saves everything of getting dirty below the knees. I used to lock the chains together with the ball and hitch.

When at CC I store mine behind tanks on bat.box. out of sight & out of dirt.
At home I store in garage,

WW Smith, that only works if you have "equalizer" type bars. (without the use of chains) If you have the Reese type, (with chains) the chains will drag from the truck. Of course if you are just pulling forward/backward a few feet, who cares.
