Spare tire for Greyhawk

I know roadside can bring a tire to you, but I would prefer the added security of already having a spare tire onboard. This way when roadside gets there, they can just change the tire and I can be on my way. Any Greyhawk owners added a spare tire? If so where did you mount it?

Added one to mine - Well added in the large storage bay - not on the frame. the only space i could locate was well behind the rear axle. Maybe not a problem for most but i usually am pulling something (see below). the large storage area gets the tire much closer to the rear axle - and leaves enough space for all the "stuff" I "need"

Thanks, but with the FS I don't have that large storage like the SS or FK. The bunks won with the kids. I have seen a hitch mounted holder that I was thinking if we don't take a car. And then if we take the car then just toss the spare in the trunk of the car.

that would work. in fact i usually keep the "dolly" spare in the trunk of the car. Sometimes the large storage area is a blessing sometimes not....

Traveling without a spare tire makes no sense. I insisted on a spare being included or would not buy the RV. I keep it in the rear storage area under the bed. Somebody in the industry started the idea of telling buyers that spares just aren't provided nor carried anymore. Too many people believe anything they hear at the RV dealer. So now when they travel and have a blow out they call roadside service for help which could be many hours before you actually get rescued. And then hope they bring the exact spare that actually will fit. This all just makes no sense when it comes to spare tires. All vehicles should have an area to accommodate for a spare.

Other than a Jayco dealer, where else can you find a spare tire and rim? Would something from a wrecked Ford E-450 chassis in a salvage yard work?

I went to the local commercial truck tire shop, they had the rim and a good used tire, cost $70 total.

Lucky you. Cheapest I have found a rim and tire is $675. Of course that is new.

A commercial tire dealer with multiple road service trucks should be able to find you a replacement tire and steel wheel for well under $300.

I actually just found a site that might have the rim for $100. I just sent them an email and will call in the AM because it says only fits up to 2011 E-450 chassis, but the wheel dimensions appear to be the same. I hope that is the case.

I got mine from a place in Minn. cost me a little over $100 - on mine there are two different rims. One 4 slot and the other 8 slot. The place i ordered from was specific that we match that parameter. Got it in and had a tire mounted . Good to go. the other important parameter is the hub size.

Gma.....I see in your signature you have a Fusion that you tow on a dolly. How does that tow? I am going to look at the Fusion next week. Don't want to start a big debate but why did you go tow dolly versus 4 down.

it was a last minute situation - going to Black Hills with Grandkids and needed a toad. So we bought the car and went with a dolly - couldnt get a base plate and brake system installed quick enough. Fusion has been absolutely great to pull. The dolly gives more flexibility. its really a users choice...

How much weight does an extra tire and rim take up in your cargo capacity?

We've decided to get a spare and rim. However the folks at Jayco told us that because the rear bumpers are now bolted instead of welded on, we need to get a fold down spare tire carrier that will be welded to the frame.

Does any one know where such a tire carrier can be obtained?

Our 08 GH 31ss has a spare tire on the rear bumper, offset a bit for the hitch.

@TheLogans... Check with your dealer mine said they can fabricate one to go underneath. However after loading all our stuff in it this weekend, it appears I may be able to put it in the rear storage compartment. I will find out once I get my wheel and tire to my house.
