Stupid question about filling fresh water tank

What is the best way to tell when it's full? On my old trailer I would fill it until came out the little screened breather. When I was filling it tonight water was coming out underneath out the overflows. Tank gauge is reading 2/3 and flashing on F. Which is correct?

With overflow option, be aware of the 'siphon effect' if water continues to stream out of hose(s) after fill has stopped. Several posts on here about this potential issue (at least with A & Cs) and how to remedy.

Unfortunately, the overflow tubes do exit under the RV.

I use a funnel to fill the tank. It's pretty tight on the inlet so I don't get many leaks. The filler pipe must be slightly below the top of the tank, because when it's FULL and I remove the funnel, the water comes out of the filler pipe until the level reaches the bottom of the pipe.

If I keep filling until the overflow drain starts to drain from the bottom of the trailer, then when I remove the funnel it comes gushing out of the filler pipe.

If I have my wife inside, hitting the panel button every few minutes, when the 4th light is lit I stop filling and then when I remove the funnel I don't lose any water.

Sometimes they put the overflow tube too far into the tank and it siphons water out

Mine was siphoning when sitting still and when traveling, sometimes losing as much at 1/3 of a tank. The dealer installed shut off valves on the overflow lines. I use one of these https://www.amazon.com/Camco-40003-...TF8&qid=1468099487&sr=1-1&keywords=Camco+fill when filling. Easy shut on and off, can adjust flow at the end of the fill and doesn't seem to overwhelm the vent at the fill port, so I don't blow my tanks out once I have turned off the over flows.

FW overflow

Hello all, newbie here. I am working on sanitizing our brand new Whitehawk 27DSRL and have a question concerning the fresh water tank overflow line. Am I correct in assuming it is one of the two lines under the trailer beneath the shower area? They are labeled low point drain and not fresh water over flow line. Seems rather confusing and there are valves installed on both of them. I would expect no valves to be installed on "overflow" lines for safety reasons. Also I have filled the tank and never saw any water coming from these lines.

These are my overflow lines with valves. Opposite side of these, you can see the fresh water holding tank drain. Your low point drain is the drain for the water in your TT's piped system. It's simply to drain the water in your pipes out easily.

Thanks for the quick reply! I too have the same lines with valves on them and they are labeled "Low point drain" used for draining. I do have water here as expected after I turn on the pump.

I expected the overflow to be labeled "fresh water tank overflow line". Why are there two of them? Seems there is only one needed to overflow the fresh water tank.

Are you saying these lines which are clearly low point drains, also my fresh water overflow line(s)? Seems like there should be a different line coming right out the top of the freshwater tank. These are pretty far from the tank.

Without some photos I can't tell you what's what on your coach. On mine, my "low pint drain" sticker is on the lower fascia near the fresh water drain, which only drains the water in the fresh holding tank. The actual "low point drain" is under the bathroom sink inline with some red and blue PEX lines. Theses drains have black plastic handles and must be pulled up to open, not twisted.

The reason for the two overflow valves/hoses on my TT is that I have dual water tanks to make up the 80+ gallons of fresh water I can carry.

Those are not the overflow lines. those lines are for draining your water lines. The overflow line does not have a valve on it and is usually located below the fill spout under the rv it is just a little hose sticking out..

@Seann45, this is a photo I took of my overflow lines. I had the dealership install the valves to stop the siphon induced water loss I would get when I would have to haul my water.

On my 2016 28BHBE the low point drain for my in coach water lines are under the bathroom sink.

Could you tell me where to look for some of the fixes for this? I filled the tanks and water was running out the overflows. We only stayed overnight. 2 people showered and when I got home checked the level in the tanks with the sensors and it showed empty. I'm not sure they were truly full. Even when I started filling the tanks the water from the hose I was using to fill the tanks was running out of the opening where you fill the tanks from.

Make sure your vents are clear. You may have a vapor lock.

How do you check the vents? Any idea why the overflow hoses don't have valves in them? I would think people wouldn't want bugs to be able to crawl into the tanks.

You likely have another common problem. Sometimes the water fill tube angles up before curving back down into the holding tank which causes some water to spill back out instead of all going into the tank. If its routed properly you shouldn't get any spill back at all. If you look in the fill opening you can see if the fill tube curving down. If its not then there's one more thing for your list.

Yep it looks straight. There isn't much down right after the fill opening.

If I installed some valves on the overflow lines it should be like my old trailer. When it was full water came out the vent right by the opening correct? Is there any problems for the tanks doing this?

If you put valves on the overflow only close them when driving. They need to be open for filling and when using/draining the tank. The vent at the opening isn't connected to anything (at least on mine and on my friend's unit where I repaired the same problem).
