Have a new Jayce travel trailer and we’re just sitting there watching tv and the bottom of the small slide out window just shattered for no apparent reason?

Welcome to the Forum from Western NY State!

It can happen with tempered glass. I've experienced car door windows doing that for no reason in the past. Could be a tiny imperfection in the glass, temperature along with a slight twist, stone from a lawnmower, kid with a BB gun, etc.

It was 9:00 at night. No one out there. We were just sitting there watching tv. I’m disappointed with Jayce as I think it was a manufacturer defect. The trailer was only one month old and they won’t approve it as a warranty claim.

There are only a few window manufacturers that supply all the RV builders. Jayco didn't make the window, just installed it. You might also check with your insurance company to see if it might be covered.

As JFlightRisk said Jayco didn't make it and there are only 2 or 3 with Lippert being the biggest. Same has happened to some shower doors. Also..

There’s no way I should have to try to claim it on my insurance. Jayco should stand behind there products! It’s a $45, 000 trailer that’s one month old!

How can Jayco know that it was not hit by a rock or other flying object? If they believe everything someone tells them, they would be fixing everything free.

You’re a big help! I’m done with this group!

After 4 posts? You are done? This forum is great for getting other opinions so try not to leave if anyone has a different one.

I personally have had the same thing happen to me in my stick and bricks recently. Even though it was in warranty, last month of a 4 year warranty and we were not in the room, one shower door shattered like a bomb went off. After weeks on the phone with the company, and many pictures of the mess they denied my claim. They replacement glass cost $200 for a pair of doors when I only needed one. I purchased another brand of door and moved on!

If he could prove beyond reasonable doubt that the window was installed improperly and put in a bind causing stress on the glass which can cause tempered glass to explode, then he could get reimbursed by Jayco, or win in court. But since he isn’t here any more, Oh Well☹️

Looks like I'm late to this Campfire. So I'll just say this for the next person, should they go searching, before they post.

Manufacturer defects aren't for dealerships to deal with.....that would be the company that made the product, ie: the Manufacturer....hence the term MANUFACTURER defect. Any dealership I've dealt with regardless of the product I was buying, that came with a warranty. NO warranties I've ever read or had read to me covered manufacturer's defects. As Grumpy said. Jayco didn't make the window only installed it.

Here is something that many may not know although I am not sure if Jayco is different in this regard or if recent changes have occurred. I have always purchased new except for the one I have now as I slowed down since purchasing this one. However, I have had broken windows and other issues and I remember for example when I saw a rock hit and break a side window glass on my last RV, and I took it to the dealer for repair and I told the service manager what had happened and to my surprise it was replaced for free. The manager told me that they are provided a goodwill fund from the manufacture that can be used for those things that are questionable regarding if what happened is or is not covered by the warranty (such as a broken window that nothing hit), but the funds can also be used for simply keeping a happy customer.

The use (as I was told) of the goodwill funds is a use it or lose it type of fund based on a specific time frame, so the dealer told me that he still had plenty of goodwill funds left and therefore they replaced the glass at no cost to me. ~CA
