“Thankless” Water Heater

I’m guessing that the “*” on the equipment page got me. Our 2023 29.5 bhds shows to come standard with a tankless water heater. Well. Not all of em. We got the old school 6 gallon Atwood.

Shoulda looked closer huh???

I am on my first tankless water heater after having the 6 gallon tanks. If you have a big crowd you should be mindful of the amount of water it takes to get the hot water to flow when you have the tankless water heater. Of course a lot of this depends on the location of tankless in relationship to your shower and or your kitchen sink. When I was on campground power and have the two features, gas and electric feature, I would turn on both for my 6 gallon water heater and it was quick recovery after heating up. With the 6 gallon water heater located right behind the shower faucets and in the cabinet, I would have instant hot just as soon as I would turn my water on, saving bunches of cold water that would normally go down the drain

From all the problems I’ve read about the tankless water heaters I think you are better off. Ours is just 6 gallon tank heater, but we’ve never had cold showers. We just wait about 1/2 hour between showers and by having both the electric element and propane running together the water heats up extremely fast. If, and when we ever buy another RV it won’t have a tankless water heater. Just m $0.02……

One of my first mods after I bought the MH was to replace the tankless with a 6 gal suburban tanked water heater. With propane and electric running, they can recover in 20 minutes. There's more than a few threads on here about the tankless water heaters and none of them are good. You lucked out.

The DW and I can take showers almost right after the other, and not run out of hot water. The space between them is her drying off and dressing, not too long. Just a hint...let her take hers FIRST. You'll thank me later. ;)

Honestly, I'm very happy with our tank heater. I was disappointed that our rig had a tank heater but after a year I'm glad it doesn't. I can take a normal shower including shaving my head and my wife can shower within a 1/2 hour after and still not run out of hot water. The wait time is even shorter using both electric and propane to heat the water.

I have the tankless propane heater and we never run out of hot water nor have I had any issues with it. I read somewhere on here to set the temp for using full hot only to ensure a good flow rate so that's what we do.

Our coach is 12 years old now, crazy. We originally had the first generation of Girard tankless heaters. It was super temperamental. After some "discussion" we were able to get it swapped for the newer model. It has been fantastic. And the newer models are even better. With a wife and four kids, and often extras, we wouldn't have survived without it. Candidly, we don't do a lot of dry camping, but we do some. It takes a few seconds for the hot water to hit the shower head, but seconds, not minutes. Personally, I would opt for it again when the day comes that we replace this coach.
