Thin Shade

Finally got around to installing my thin shade window and we love it. Went out last weekend for the first time with it. So nice to be able to see out of that window as the 242BHS doesn't have many windows on the camp side. We installed it upside down so the shade comes up from the bottom. We thought we would like it better this way and so far we do.

A warning about these: There are 2 main brands for these, Lippert and AP Products. If your existing window (made by Lippert) has a screwless frame on the inside of the door, you will need some inserts that open the clips to remove it. The Lippert brand comes with those inserts, the AP Products (which I bought) does not. I was able to make some out of popsicle sticks, but it was a pain to have to do.

UPSIDE DOWN.......what a great idea that is. I installed a clear (tinted) window about 6 years ago and really enjoy the extra view.
I vote that the best Mod for 2021

Thanks Bob, IMHO, AP Products should supply them instead of me having to spend another 22.00, Lippert supplies them with their thin shade window for about the same price as APP. Good links, thanks.

I would say “privacy “ , in my house before this one we installed the bottom up shades and when they were up about 1/4 of the way anyone walking thru my property could not see us inside but allowed us to have a great view.

Same in my camper. If it was mounted at the top, I would not be able to see out but anyone outside could see me if the bottom was up just a little.

The idea was we could open it up to let some light in and see out while standing or walking around in underwear, in other words, privacy. We've only used it one weekend so far, but we think we are going to like it this way. Of course, we can just flip it over if we don't, but for now, I don't see that happening.

Not at all. The cutting down 16 popsicle sticks took longer than the install.

I installed these on my 2 doors, upside down and love them! I'm thinking I may add one to the bottom of the main door to see what's going on outside during the day!

Got ours installed last week. Got to agree, best, easiest mod of 2021.
Went with the bottom up installation, love it.

Just installed a Lippert this weekend. Took the "bottom up" suggestion and glad we did. Like the result!

Have to say...the instructions left A LOT to be desired. They generally assumed you already had the frame and were just installing the shade. The way they packed the frame about 75% of the gator clips had engaged, so took a bit to release them all. Looks like they have done slightly better with the window, as there was a thinner band of the same adhesive/seal for the frame in the window pocket. Still had to press it pretty hard to prevent the glass from dropping down while getting the clips engaged. Definitely relatively easy to figure everything out after staring at it for about 10 minutes, but took the time to watch a quick YouTube video as insurance/sanity check.

Also installed a new Bauer bluetooth lock set. Now THAT was easy and works like a champ! Can now open our coach door via key, keypad, or smart phone. Pricey at $300 but an definite upgrade from the unit that came with our rig 7 years ago!

That's awesome Rob, Have never heard of those locks, I have the RV locks keypad lock with a FOB, sure is nice not to have to worry about having the key, just have to make sure the batteries in the lock are always good.

Got mine put in tonight! Did the upside down install. Love it and was an easy replacement.
